Garden Rejected

Title: Inis Grove Park Community Garden
Description: A community garden near Inis Grove Park.
Supporting Description: Gardens are good places to learn about health, which counts as a good place to exercise for the criteria.
Supporting Photo:

Address: 2407 Duff Ave, Ames, IA 50010, USA

I think this was probably a “community” decision. This is not what is typically called a “community garden” - those are the ones with separate plots where people come to plant things they can’t at their homes. I would resubmit with a photo of the sign filling most of the frame, but not all kind of like this

and I would call it Inis Grove Park Flower Garden. Was the photo you shared your supporting photo? What was your supporting text?

The photo at the bottom was supporting, and “ Gardens are good places to learn about health, which counts as a good place to exercise for the criteria.” is the supporting description

And also there are 2 signs

I am having trouble locating where the flower garden would be on maps. If it does show there, point out in the supporting to reviewers how they can see it to verify location. Try to take a supporting photo that still includes whichever sign you submit, as well as some detail that can be seen on Maps to help them verify. You might add this link in the supporting, too, that identifies a “Nature Area” as a park amenity, unless that is something different. https://www.cityofames.org/Home/Components/FacilityDirectory/FacilityDirectory/68/471?seldept=13&npage=2

I don’t think the garden is technically at Inis Grove Park though

Maybe try “Gardens are a great destination to explore nature, and can be great for exercise and being social as well.”

Well don’t use that link if it isn’t for that Flower Garden. If you can find a link that supports that this is a destination for people to come to, use that.

Please refer to the following link - Search All Parks & Facilities | City of Ames, IA. Based upon the summary information for Inis Park, there is no reference to a community garden being present in this park. The pinned street address 2407 Duff Ave, Ames appears to be a residential address as per this link https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/2407-Duff-Ave_Ames_IA_50010_M70493-65791 . I think that your submission can be strengthened by including a community garden signboard.

The other “issue” is that most Community Gardens in Ames appear to be lots that are leased out annually to individuals and therefore may be considered to be private property with restricted access to the general public .

Good luck.

I do have a note of caution here around language use, so what is commonly used in US may apply differently elsewhere so people need to be aware.
In the U.K. for example we have allotments which are plots for growing fruit and vegetables (occasionally flowers). The whole allotments can be quite large.
We also have community gardens or pocket parks which can be small spaces either a green space to socialise or sometimes a small vegetable container or two. These are normally council owned land with permission for a project.
Both types are eligible as great spaces to socialise ( plus potential for other criteria too)

Could we see the actual garden please.

photos of the garden in question are in the first post. the sign says “flower garden” so i suggested using that wording for the title.

I was hoping for something bigger better quality :joy: and wider of the garden.
Eyes are not what they used to be.

Thanks for the help
