Just a quick question regarding criteria and appeals. We have a community garden like many communities in my area. Almost all if not all the community gardens have gyms and stops at that location. I submitted our communities garden as a potential stop/gym yet it was refused stating the criteria was not met. The info reffered me to the guidelines and I read them… to be even more confused once the proposed stop was refused again after the appeal.
So I’m trying to understand why it clearly states community gardens are in fact acceptable but I keep being told it does not follow the guidelines. That’s a vague response since it says otherwise on the criteria page. There is no other hint of why it was refused. So would it be the picture taken? Or something else I am missing? I read the criteria page multiple times now. It is a community garden at a park where several other stops were approved.
Like i said, I am confused now. Is it possoble Niantic/Wayfarer do not want too many stop in that area or am I missing something?

Hello and welcome,
Yes, community gardens are eligible, but there could be something else that caused the rejection. It also sounds like you got an “our team” rejection email, which most likely means the ML/AI rejected it, not the reviewers.
Are you willing to share the screenshots of the nomination from Contribution Management, including title/descrption/supporting info/photos?

You don’t include your nomination, so I’ll make a stab in the dark.
“Community Garden” means the ground is divided into plots, where different people come plant vegetables, and tend the plants. Sometimes the gardeners take home their plot’s harvest, but sometimes the food is donated to a local food bank, school, shelter.
These gardens are places to socialize and help each other with seeds, tips, trades, etc.
A normal landscaping garden would not likely meet criteria. Maybe if it has benches or something showing it as a place to socialize.

Welcome to the forum @Biggshowkf !
It would be a lot easier for us to help you if you post some screenshots showing both photos and the statements you made in your original nomination. The original rejection reason and the appeal statement would be useful, too. There is a lot of gray area in Wayfarer, and it can be confusing on what will be accepted. Only the things that cannot be accepted are specifically listed.

Sorry new to the forums but yes, as you stated, it is a community garden for those exact purposes. I posted the rejection email and the original appeal email to this post. There are picnic tables right next the garden with horseshoe pits as well. The picture taken to show the area included those.
I’m not sure if it was the picture of the garden that was not good enough or something else. As i was writinng this I did notice it says “generic business”? Not sure what that means regarding a garden.
If a different angle or view of the garden is needed I can definitely go back and retake some photos. It is a garden that grows fruit, vegetables, sunflowers and sage for community events. Open to the community. I hope this helps narrow down what I might be missing.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Thanks for the info. Niantic is wanting a place marker for the garden, such as a sign. The basketball court at this location can have a photo of just one of the hoops and not the entire court, as the hoop does placemark the court.
However, for a community garden with different planter beds, it’s not necessarily needed. It could be that the crops in the garden right now are too tall, and ML/AI didn’t like all of the greenery in the main photo. It’s not the first time foliage has caused issues.
I did look up the Cultural Healing Center, and it appears this garden is around 44.99419390463834, -79.7433385345335, just north of the playground and sports courts. I can see the picnic tables next to the garden on Street View, the backstop for the ball field, as well as the shed behind the garden, which are all in your photos. I circled the possible area of the garden from Street View below:
I think a good main photo for this garden may be one taken either earlier or later in the growing season, if there is no sign for said garden, to better show off the planter beds; a landscape photo of the beds may also be better than portrait. If there is a sign, that would make a good main photo and place marker for the garden.
Also, supporting photos should show the nominated place with the surrounding area, not just the surrounding area. This helps better place the nomination, as well as locate it.
Other than the photos, the title is good, and the supporting text describes the importance of the garden to the community. I would maybe include some of the importance to the community in the description, just to make it more in line with a great place to explore and possibly be social at.

I will see if I can get a Community Garden sign put in for the next time I try to get a stop there. I will probably have to wait until the spring time to try it again but hopefully it will be a better situation.
Appropriate your info and help with this.
A sign would massively help - people often joke that wayfarer should be called signfarer as many things without signs are rejected when the same item with a sign is usually acceptef
The picnic area can also be eligible as a good place to socialise! If they are in different cells and 20m apart then you may be able to get 2 waypoints in Go/Ingress.

Since you mentioned “stops” in your original post, I wanted to be sure that you realize which nominations are eligible to show up in Pokemon Go. Those will be the Wayspots which are alone in a level 17 S2 cell. A good article explaining that is here: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
If this is a picnic area beside that community garden
and if this is it on the map
that is what i would recommend you try submitting next. It is hard for me to tell for sure on satellite view if that is the picnic area.

Even if it gets approved and doesn’t show up in PoGo or Ingress, it may show up in other Niantic games, as it gets added to the Lightship map. Lightship is also used by developers of apps/games, so they may use Wayspots not in any games.
Really, what we are doing is mapping the real world, and the places that are great for being social at, great for exercise, and great to explore. Many places to explore are of importance to a community, such as a community garden, and it may even be a place to be social with others that tend to it.
I have submitted several Wayspots that do not show up in PoGo or Ingress, and I’m ok with that, since I know what we are doing as Wayfarers. I submitted and got accepted 4 POIs at a park, and none of them are in PoGo because of the other stops currently there. I’m just happy to get them added to Lightship, and maybe get used by other developers out there.

Same, but I prioritized things that would show up in the games at first, then branched out.
Would be exciting if the new “Power Spots” in PoGo used some of these other Wayspots - I guess we will know that soon.
Yes, but prioritizing whether a Wayspot appears or not can be seen as discouraging for some new Wayfarers. It doesn’t hurt to explain the density rules and what Wayfaring is, but to say it may not show up may discourage others to nominate.
Disagree. Knowledge is power. Not understanding why their nominations don’t appear in the games they play disincentivizes more players than not. I have never said not to submit things that won’t show up in any game.

Im completely happy to nominate something I KNOW wont show up
But nominating something and having it accepted and then feeling super let down when it never appears is awful
100% better to know in advance

I just felt that your wording was somewhat discouraging. You may disagree, but if I was given info like this, with the maps especially, I would feel discouraged as a new Wayfarer. Giving info on the density rules is less discouraging, so I don’t mind the link to PoGo Hub on S2 cells, but seeing the map currently and other Wayspots in the area may cause some to just say “forget about it.”
I have helped a lot of people. Attacking me is moving away from helping the OP. They said they wanted to make “stops”. If they jumped through all the hoops you mentioned to get the photo in the appropriate season, and got it accepted, and after all that THEN it did not show up as a “stop,” that would be extremely frustrating to have gone to all that effort for no in game reward, if that is what they were after.
Adding things just to improve the map is great and fun for us long-timers, but I think NOT explaining the algorithms to go live in Pokemon Go is withholding important information. If looking at the S2 cells on the map makes someone want to give up, at least they have full knowledge of how it works.

I’m not attacking anyone. I’m just asking people to be more careful with their word choices. This is not the time and place to discuss this.
Then stop bringing it up.

! bought it up once, you continued…
@Ambassadors @moderators A little help, please?
I’m neither thankfully but you would both fare better if you got together and rallied against Niantic rather than arguing with each over the problems, deliberate obfuscation and inconsistencies with the map that are caused by Niantic and ignored by Niantic.
