Has Redbank Battle Field Park in NJ had gyms removed and have new gyms blocked from spawning?

Location: (39.8691456, -75.1899288)

I’m hoping someone on the team can check out this park. It’s one of the hottest spots in the Delaware Valley, drawing trainers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware for Community Day and other Pokémon GO events.

When I looked into it, I noticed several Gyms missing, despite the area meeting known density rules. I’ve also heard that some Gyms vanished back in 2017-2018.

In the South West Cell there is 2 gyms missing (23 POI’s only 1 gym).

In the North East Cell there was 1 gym missing. When we submitted more waypoints a gym did spawn in that cell but outside the park.

I’m guessing the park admins asked Pokémon GO to nerf the area because players weren’t respecting the park. But it’s 2024 now, and the community has grown up. We rent gazebos, hold events, and don’t cause a scene.

I am hoping to confirm if the area was nerfed. Additionally, I am looking to find out who Niantic prefers the reinstatement request to come from. Lastly, I aim to rally other trainers to petition local politicians/administration to request that Niantic fix this.

Thank you for helping us start the process.

I suspect you might get a “this is not a wayfarer issue response”

But we will see.

Were there ever any sponsored gyms or special events pokestops.
So the NW cell is now actually ok as it has 3 gyms in total?

So it’s only the SW cell where there is a problem.
It may well be that the park authorities said they didn’t want any gyms in a certain zone. What is the title of the one wayspot in that cell that is a gym.

The gym is White Hall House, and yes the cell directly to the east has all 3 gyms. I don’t believe there have ever been any special event gyms / stops there but I can’t be sure.

I want to highlight that the most north east cell had 2 stops and 0 gyms. When 3 more stops got into game it created a gym outside of the park. Hesitant to submit a 6th until we get an answer.

A bit off-topic, but out of curiosity I took a look. I’ve never seen so many basic memorial benches as way spots in my entire experience. There looks to be about 100 of them in that little park.

It’s a shame there is so many eligible things here. Most of the waypoints are very old.

I suspect the problem does lie in the park area having had a request to remove gyms. The Whittal House may have escaped the ban as maybe the wording said something like parkland and as it was a building it escaped.

@NianticAaron is there anything you can confirm about this area?

If that is the case I suspect the only way would be to get the authorities to say it was ok now.

If the memorial benches, and wow there are a lot😂, are mostly old then They probably don’t meet removal criteria, and you would need to check as some could be noteworthy and meet eligibility criteria anyways.

If gyms are spawning outside the park, in cells where they can be triggered, then it sounds logical that outside the park is the only place they can spawn, when the number is reached to trigger a new gym.

Reverting the park to be able to spawn gyms would trigger gyms in the SW cell as that is missing gyms. :person_shrugging:

Yes, the Gyms were removed at the request of the property owner.

Would it be possible to let us know which level of government made that request was it the county commissioners or was it the parks and recreation department? As I mentioned in the original post things have changed and we want to make a respectful request

Unfortunately, we cannot share that information. Our policies do not allow us to share any details of our conversation with a third party.

Having said that, I can tell you who can request for the Wayspots to be reinstated. We need a request from a senior executive of the Parks department (preferably the Parks director or equivalent).

Thanks again @NianticAaron and what is the best for them to reach out to you all? Also feel free to DM me that info if posting it publicly doesn’t make sense. I just don’t wanna assume that the same person that made that request is still with the county and I want to make it as easy for them as possible.

They can use this webform: Request modification or removal of a PokéStop or Gym – Pokémon GO
