This is an airport hangar where the parking lot is reachable/open to the public. What can I do have this be voted for instead of against? I have appealed this.

SkyWest is a generic business, as it serves as a regional airline for many larger airlines. I know SkyWest services the United flight from where I live to Denver, as well as other locations in my home state.

Interesting because I work here, and one of the guys who works in Detroit is here helping out and has shown me that his SkyWest hangar is a waypoint.
It is a little late to ask for help here after you have appealed.
If it was rejected by the “automated process” about 24 hours after you submitted it, then the ML (machine learning ai) model just couldn’t reconcile this with anything it was taught was acceptable.
I am not certain how an airplane hanger meets any of the criteria for a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social, but I could see the airport as a Wayspot.
It told me last night it was “In voting” doesn’t that mean that this waypoint was simply voted down by the community? As for your ask about whether or not this hangar meets the criteria you mentioned, this is a big hangar with a big parking lot. Behind it is another large parking lot for those getting on flights to leave and park their car.

You can’t base what you submit off of what’s already in the game. The Detroit hanger should not have a Wayspot, as it’s a gerneic business as well. I’m not seeing a Wayspot for SkyWest in Detroit; it may be a Power Spot, which was imported and those don’t have to follow Wayspot criteria.
Wayspots need to either be a great place to be social, exercise, and/or explore. I don’t find an airline hanger to meet any of these. However, an airport and POIs inside may meet criteria, as an airport may be a great place to be social/explore, there may be art in the airport worth exploring, and there could be local restuarants/cafes worth exploring and being social at.
I would encourage you to review the Wayspot Criteria to know what may or may not be eligible. You may also want to check out the Criteria Clarification Collection for some of the most discussed POIs.

If you saw it in voting, then it probably was the community. Does your rejection email say “the community” or “our team”?
I am not familiar with airports at all. A hangar sounds like a place to store and work on airplanes to me, which would not meet any of the criteria I mentioned:

If that is not an accurate perception, we can work on helping you draft a new submission. Wait until you get the appeal decision. If they accept it - done! If they don’t, then we can talk it out.
Just because your coworker has seen one of these as a Wayspot does not mean it meets today’s criteria. How would you explain that this is a great place for people to exercise, explore, or be social. That is current criteria.

If you have more nominations you want to discuss, please ask here before you appeal. You get two appeals, each on a 15 day timer before you can use them again. Appeals are being decided very quickly these days, so you should know soon. We would love to help.
@DTrain2002 mentioned that power spots do not always have to meet criteria. Any of these labels may be showing as an imported powerspot.
This topic explains how some locations that do not meet criteria were added to the game for this purpose. It can be very confusing to see them in game and then get them rejected when trying to submit them.
