I recently had a gravesite nomination be rejected. I get that most are not good, but Wayfarer criteria does say that historically significant graves can be considered. I feel that I supplied enough information and context for it to be accepted, but evidently not.
I’m not too beaten up about it being rejected, even on appeal. I just wanted to figure out the thought process and get some other perspectives.
Yeah, the Confederate Army part is not going to pass.
I mentioned that in my appeal.
You can’t mention it at all. Niantic has been removing Wayspots that represent the Confederacy for awhile now, due to the sensitive nature the subject can be.
I’m not going to get into the politics of that at all, but thanks for telling me that.
Outside of that aspect, would you think it’s a historic enough gravesite to warrant getting a pass?
I think using some of what you mentioned in your appeal, such as the grave being a Texas state historical landmark, as well as the family being founders of the area, would be best to focus on. It’s way over 50 years old, so it can be nominated as a historical grave.
It’s still going to be a hard sell, but including the links in your supporting info to its historic value, especially the U of North Texas link, may be helpful.
Not all though. There have been instance where removal requests were denied.
Niantic has been removing some of these themselves, too, and not solely based on removal requests from users. Also, removal requests that have been rejected can be appealed here in the forums, as additional info may be needed for Niantic to fully make a decision.
Being this is about a new nomination though, any mention of anything to do with the Confederacy as of late tends to get rejected. It’s best to play it safe and not mention it, if possible, and this is a nomination where that could be done.
Not always. You can get multiple examples on this very same forum if you look for them. Happy New year bud.
And there are multiple examples here of rejection as well. It’s just best to play it safe.
