Hi, on my lane there is a Victorian Stinkpipe which I would like to add as a wayspot - a pokestop in effect.
It’s been declined twice, despite many other stinkpiples being allowed
Because apparently it was a stink pipe not a Victorian stink pipe. Fundamentally nonsense as they only made stink pipes in Victorian times
Most recent; as a it has a tree grown around it. I mean?!!! So what it’s overgrown!
I see so many nonsense and temporary pokestops on the game and this genuine attempt keeps getting declined with no obvious way to get my reasoning out to a human. Hence here
Welcome constructive efforts to make this a reality
Hello! I’m moving this topic to Nomination Support as Niantic won’t review a rejected appeal for a nominatiton in this category. In this new category people will be able to help you to improve your nomination!
Stinkpipes used to get accepted all the time before the criteria got updated to re-enforce social/explore/exercise and they’re pretty divisive even now from those who think they’re great and others who think they’re coal.
How did you frame it as meeting criteria, bearing in mind you can’t take what’s already been accepted/live on the game maps as what meets criteria now.
They used to be submitted due to the “historical significance” part of the old critieria
I think they best link to “explore” now, as it can be an opportunity to learn about a point in history where a “stink pipe” was necessary.
I dont hate them, they are like postboxes. The ornate ones are best. I have tried nominating a victorian lamp post that was actually manufactured in my town back when we had a foundry here. I included lots of historical detail, but Emily hated it so thats that - cant get it in front of british humans who may accept it
I think stink pipes are also one of those things that you need british humans to review, because no one else will consider it in the same way. Can’t see an appeal working either
I just can’t see how a stinkpipe that is completely obscured by foilage with no plans to be maintained/revealed by the authorities meets explore criteria. Once you get to this spot, there’s nothing to explain what it is except the game. But a POI is supposed to mark a spot people are already being drawn to. (No, i don’t care about the Ingress lore around portals and XM.)
That is a fair challenge but it’s on a well used walking and cycling route, whether dog walkers on a loop, or Duke of Edinburgh groups etc. just happens that it’s on a very long but pavementless route but doesn’t mean there isn’t a large footfall through there
Is this stinkpipe listed on the National Heritage List? If so, I would emphasise this in your submission so that any reviewer can be made aware of it’s historical significance and importance to the local community. Ideally, is there a historical plaque or sign that can be used instead as the focus for your nomination?
Otherwise, the stinkpipe would more than likely be considered to be just a generic fixture of no significance for an abandoned sewer system.
The aforementioned photos appear to be stinkpipes listed on the National Heritage List; hence their evident condition and care.

No.

They are not. The picture of the one with the gold crown at Kennington isn’t even listed. The only thing listed next to it is a Gentleman’s Underground Lavatory.
In fairness until I saw this, and then others, did I learn what this is. What a stinkpipe is, and there rather fascinating history. Also think it’s more rare finding this in a village some 29 miles south of central london. For me, this makes it quite an interesting POI. Let’s also be honest about quality of other pokestops, eg shops. These run risk of being temporary, changing name, turned to houses. Yet how many do you see? Where as this fixture is some 60/70 years old and won’t be removed
In that case, I would recommend that you focus your appeal (or new nomination) on the fact that a stinkpipe meets the qualifying criteria of exploration (as a minimum).
I believe that you can successfully argue that a stinkpipe is a place that you love to venture out to (regardless of it’s condition or state of repair) on your daily walk, is a place mark of interest and importance to the local community and tells a unique story about the history of your town. You may want to include a “general” hyperlink (or two) that refers to the significance of stinkpipes in history. This would educate any reviewer. Is there a manufacturing date imprinted on the stinkpipe that you might be able to refer to.
Sacrilege Against Ingress !!! How dare thee @seaprincesshnb.
I’ll be honest with you though I’d never heard of a stink pipe before until recently let alone a Victorian one and I have a museum in my backyard.
Someone submitted one recently nearby but the detail was limited but the manufacturers name jumped out at me as being inside this museum so I’m off on a jolly soon to see if I can find more information on them from the historians.
