I just attained level 38 in PoGo yesterday and started attempting to improve my village’s waystops. One waypoint irked me before because of the ugly pic and the poor grammar. I also realised that it actually combined two different items into one, which could easily be split in two - a small baseball court and a neighbouring skate ramp. The S2 cells also overlap with the items in a way that makes this possible, just barely.
How should I go about this? Should I request the removal of the old stop and then submit two new ones? Should I request edits to the existing spot piecemeal with the in-game tool and then request a second one? Should I set up a form to request a bunch of changes at once in the forum for staff to look at and then hopefully be able to nominate the second one if they greenlight the changes?
Thanks in advance for any helpful tips or guidance.
Welcome to the forum!
I also am frustrated when I find several eligible pois combined into one. I don’t think that reporting for removal would be the correct way to proceed if the approved Wayspot does exist. We could help more if you are comfortable sharing the actual location, but don’t feel that you have to.
Niantic has been adamant about not repurposing Wayspots. I honestly am afraid to recommend changing the approved Wayspot in order to split it up at this time. Especially without seeing the actual situation.

This is something i wouldnt attempt unless like u said, the location of the currently existing wayspot is accurate to where you were trying to modify it. This is probably not allowed because it involves manipulating picture votes. That being said…
I would submit a picture change first. Say the baseball field, make the pic solely the baseball field and make it nice so it passes as a good valid pic of the current wayspot. once its approved give it thumbs up with your account. if the new pic has more likes it will become the main pic of the current wayspot. once that happens then submit a name change to match the pic, so, “____ _____ baseball field”, with the blanks being the name of the park. As well as a description change, for example, " baseball field located in ______ park". once that all goes through it will be solely a baseball field and will allow you to submit the skatepart and not have it voted down for being a duplicate.
dont submit all the edits at once. by doing the picture first and waiting for it to be in game it will make it easier for voters to agree on a title and description change. again, this is probably not allowed by niantic and definitely should not be tried if either the baseball field or the skatepart would not be located accurately to where they exist in real life because you’re trying to manipulate their location due to the S2 L17 cells
Without seeing the Wayspot, there are just so many factors we aren’t seeing to make further recommendations. For example, if the existing Wayspot is “Local Park” then “Court at Local Park” and “Skatepark at Local Park” could be submitted as is with no manipulation.
POGO isn’t the only Niantic game. So while you think splitting the wayspots in two may work for that game, it may not be as successful in, say, Ingress.
I generally go with how the city/community views the spot.
Near me there is an HOA that has a specific sign saying “The basketball and volleyball courts are for the enjoyment of HOA members only.”
So, when I added the volleyball court to the existing basketball court, I made sure to treat it as one portal, not to try to make them two (including having the sign as the primary photo while I pushed the transitions through).
Recently I added path that consisted of 27 different inset plaques on the ground. I made that a single portal rather than trying to make it 27 different ones. Why? Because the artist treated it as a whole (well, okay, because they were close enough together that no existing game would have accepted all of the them). In the end, I add more than 27 photos to the portal rather, one closeup for each inset, and one for the overall view.
Just because one CAN break up spots doesn’t mean one HAS to break them up.
Sometimes a park can just be a park, without every single item in it being something.

Thanks for the replies. I will share a screenie of the wayspot next time I pass it, along with a Maps link.
While the idea mentioned above has some argumentative power, in the end it’s just a small village and we can use every spot we can reasonably squeeze from the system.

I just returned to the spot in question. On top of the poor presentation the spot location is also completely fubar, being centered on the neighbouring daycare. I have gone ahead and just entered some suggestions to improve the old spot and nominated the second spot. If it gets rejected as dupe I’ll just appeal once the changes went through. Thank you guys for the input, it helped me get clarity.
