Ok, this nomination is located outside of a local mall. It’s located in a plaza on a loop and is very much a place to hang out and walk and hang out with friends and neighbors. Little children have been known to climb on it for exercise.
It’s a permanent display, it’s been there for ~5 years give or take.
What would you add to this to make it more attractive to voters?
Is this an Urban Outfitters store, by any chance? If it is, the rejection for generic business is correct, as this could be at all or most of their stores.
Correct, it’s OUTSIDE the store. I didn’t want to nominate the store because that would in fact be a generic business, but the mural or sign that’s located in the plaza. (not sure how to categized it.)
I’m thinking about using an appeal, and hoping NIA can see the nuance in the nomination. That is not the store, but in fact the sign.
I don’t think it will be approved, as it’s signage for the store, thus is a part of the store. Plus, the windows having sales signs and other Urban Outfitters signage kind of gives this away as a store sign, not distinct art.
I knew this would be a tough one! I’m going to roll the dice and see what happens! I’ll keep you posted! Also, @DTrain2002 are you on Discord? I’d love to ask you a couple of questions.
Please don’t use that as justification for “exercise.” Kids sleep on the floor, but that doesn’t mean the floor is designed to be slept on. Kids draw on the walls, that doesn’t mean the walls are designed to be drawn on. Kids lick … etc., etc., etc. Kids are not able to utilize good judgment, so their behavior shouldn’t be justification for something being approved.
Also, you know that no one is “hanging out” at these letters because they facilitate socializing. They’re just branding for the store. The purpose for them is to sell more stuff.
Well hello @seaprincesshnb!! Actually, and I think you’ll find this interesting. You know my 15yr old daughter… this sign is spot at the mall where all the parents drop off the kids and pick them up. Not my suggestion. In our group text we say “Meet us at the URBAN sign”.
Same can be said about any other place marker “meet me at the trash can/vending machine/bench/planter/billboard/tree/etc.” that doesnt make it a great place to socialize, just a place you call out.
