New waypoints being used for max raids

I’m from a very small town and I’m sure a lot of small businesses there that are not eligible wayspots have just turned into power spots

Am I mistaken in thinking they will change/rotate on a daily basis?

This BP petrol station popped up and I’m hoping they have added the garage nearer to me

The convenience store near me doesn’t have one, but I think it may be too close to the Wayspot that’s a gym at the garden and gift shop next door. I’ll be going out soon, so I’ll be checking what is and isn’t Power Spots in one of the main shopping districts in the city.

@DTrain2002 and @26thDoctor don’t give up your hopes :four_leaf_clover:

OMG… these are awful.

Not all of them - I like that the unused approved wayspots come into play in this way, but so many of them in my local area are Private Residential Property. There’s no way they would have gotten through Wayfarer, and yet they are being added with no checks. There’s not even a way to report them as invalid.

I’ll need to explore some more, but I bet a lot of these aren’t pedestrian safe either (e.g. the petrol station reported above).

In most areas with active high-level players, I suspect that everything truly eligible is in the Wayfarer database already. I don’t mind if it’s some generic retailer getting added as long as it’s safe and not PRP, but this really doesn’t work.

I know this is a PoGo issue really, but it would be great if the Wayfarer team could give feedback,

I’m interested to see what horrors appear tomorrow😄

Not necessarily.

I could go for a walk around Kingston or Richmond Upon Thames and easily use up 40 submissions in a day in areas like this

I could do the same in the centre of Edinburgh

100% of my submissions wouldn’t appear in Go but there is still lots of things to add that have either been missed or Go players leave because of the cell rules.

As I could see, power spots are placed by map markers (e.g. Google Maps). They are not wayspots. You must see, wayspots are for any Niantic games. They are not limited to PoGo. So power spots in PoGo might be sources for Machina in Ingress.

I have seen a subway, a key store a mc donalds and 2 design shops (so paint or decorating) … both of which dont exist lol, all kn my way to work … most annoying thing though is that one of the design places is on my work … if youre gonna pick random bysinesses, at least pick my work so i can claim my work is a point of interest in pogo lmao

포켓몬고 공식으로 파워 스팟은 같은 장소에 계속 생기는 것은 아니다 라고 나왔습니다. 기간과 간격은 알 수 없지만…

According to the official Pokémon Go, power spots don’t always appear in the same place. We don’t know the duration and interval, but…

It was confirmed that the power spot was disappearing from the location when the time limit on the power spot was over.

Inhave also noticed thta the higher stop densities seem to have less max stops. The park near me had 1 in it, but my suburb had loads

Hello  I just want to ask about how and why they’ve placed the power spots in my city like this. I attached some images that show the shops and stuff, that qualify for a power spot, but the power spots close to me are not fun spots to walk or drive to, and 2 of the spots are hard to reach. Like why?

We are all wondering this and discussing on this post: New waypoints being used for max raids

I don’t see any photos.

And I’m standing in the middle of 4 way spots, but none transform into gym. I Iive the most dense part of the city.

The gym creation process is based on how many Pokéstops and Gyms are in a Level 14 S2 Cell. They have nothing to do with the new power spots.

Pretty much feel the same. I found a private house this evening which is the name of a business in a completely different place ( Over 50 Kms away). I presume the owner of the business lives there and that it is the office address. :person_shrugging:

Only hope I can offer at this stage is they are not permanent, they will change again in a few days. (Probably to a different house and we may even get some schools…oh joy)

Schools for everyone, just like they did in Brazil last month with pokestops/gyms.

Having only had about 9 hours experience with this, my observations have been like two completely different worlds:

  1. Downtown in the college town where I work, the power spots are mostly unused wayspots. This is just fine!

  2. Meanwhile, from my house, my nearest power spots are:

  • A power spot in the middle of a road that’s also a duplicate of a wayspot for the park it represents. The location is off by at least 80 meters (based on the nearest edge of the park).
  • A power spot for a dry cleaning business that’s been closed for years. It’s misplaced in an apartment building that is about 375 meters from where the business used to be.
  • A power spot named “We Shall Never Forget” at a local brewery. I have no idea what it is supposed to represent, but I am sure that the brewery had their property excluded from Pokémon GO years ago. (There are wayspots at the brewery, but they don’t appear as Stops or Gyms).

I really hope the dismal data quality of this import doesn’t mean that I’m constantly low-level angry while playing Pokémon GO. Like, the nonsense that they’ve imported here only feels a few steps up from generative AI trash. It may seem irrational (it does to me to some extent), but this lack of any care whatsoever with the quality of the product being put out really hits me the wrong way.

So, I’m back from being out today, and almost all of the Power Spots I saw are at generic chain businesses, apartment buildings, or places that no longer exist. I also came across one where a tattoo shop used to be, but it has moved, and its old space was torn down. I even went to a few parks, and only 1 had a Power Spot, which may be a Wayspot (part of the park story walk), but I can’t see anything in Lightship right now, so can’t say.

Other than this one above, a local Mexican restaurant, and a nail salon, most of the Power Spots are awful and placed mostly at businesses or apartment buildings. Actually, not mad at the one at Barnes & Noble, being it’s a book store, but does the Red Lobster nearby have to have one?
