Interestingly, the Scouting USA headquarters in my city got the stops/gyms there removed from PoGo, but they were still in Lightship. They were also completely removed from PoGo. Tonight, the stops were back on the map, but inactive. No Power Spots were there, so that’s good.
It’s going to be so sad when everybody realises again how useless and convoluted Niantic have made another new feature.
It least with routes they gave us some sort of opportunity to contribute.
It’s getting increasingly more difficult to not imagine the Go team as a giant toddler stomping around and knocking over anything that gets in its way.
They way raids got absolutely trashed during the max update, with no communication, and no refunds for wasted passes was also absolutely apalling. But of course Go has no way to get in touch with humans like Wayfarer does, so there’s never any answer and customer satisfaction is not a concept (I guess because players arent considered customers, data companies are).
Max should have been an exciting addition to Go, and could have been a cool opportunity for Wayfarer if we had been asked to contribute businesses for their max spots. Sadly we would instead get threatened with a ban if we try to submit places like these max spots, so we cant help. But I’m pretty sure we will start to see reviews for more business locations
Feels like Go don’t really want Wayfarer messing up their stuff and prefer to bypass it
At a guess… I suspect in 3 to 6 months that Niantic will either use the existing Lightship DB, convert some of the existing waypoints, or ask members of the community to nominate specific Max Raid locations based on locations and local knowledge. I know it’s farfetched, but I think the existing import is not working in a way it was intended.
Absolutely.
It seems like they will take the quickest and easiest option available with no thought to the effects on people who have been building their map for nearly 10 years now.
They definitely could have found a way to use existing Wayspots in urban areas and levelled the playing field in other areas by using S2 cells to populate with power spots.
There’s no way this doesn’t have a knock on effect that influences submissions and reviews. Get it done and think about it/ignore it later ![]()
Let’s hope they don’t use the existing database in India, Brazil and Turkey then ![]()
I plead the 5th…
So I did some more scouting at the non-wayspot additions, and I would say roughly half of them are either in the wrong place or residential property. I have found a things like supermarkets, convenience stores etc but mostly these are not locations a random member of the public could just go to, even if they’re businesses.
Frustratingly, there seems to be some restriction on using non-published Wayspots that are next to each other, I guess a cell restriction. In places that I know there are a large number of Wayspots not in PoGo, that isn’t reflected in these new power spots. In other words - if I go into my town centre there should be a bunch of power spots, but there aren’t.
Most of mine nearby will maybe disappear/change place in about 16 hours so it’s difficult to work out the system if there is any.
Don’t worry, I’ve got my Solrock ready!
I wonder if these also got placed in locations such as Russia where everything else for Niantic games is switched off.
In the image the Power Spot is Port Laing Beach.
The pin for it is taken from Google maps and the spot is plonked down at that position. There’s no sign or anchor
at the moment but let’s say Fife council decide to place a sign for it on the pin would my future submission be on top of the Wayspot?
If the point of cell restrictions is not to clog the map it seems short sighted to…clog the map.
Obviously that’s a specific case but I’ve seen plenty of nature reserve signs, businesses etc that could easily become Wayspots that end up on top of Power Spots.
I know having gas stations, schools etc was fine when it was Brazil and India being spammed does it make a difference now that y’all can see the spam on your map?
I’m not bothered if the actual Power Spot disappears as just 2 minutes up the road this exists on someone’s house
I say exists but the actual business owner has moved house I think.
Mod Note: Merged with main thread.
I feel so bad for the Wayfarer staff right now. The Pokemon Go team has chosen to use all kinds of locations that would be ineligible as Wayspots for these Powerspots, but most people won’t know this has nothing to do with Wayfarer. Especially concerning to me are the removed Pokemon Go locations at property owner request that are coming back as Powerspots.
Yeah one of the ones near me is literally someones house that at one time was rented out Air B&B style but isnt anymore - its literally just a house.
Another is a web developer that google says works from home and only deals with customers online. And given that the website link given is broken and google shows no other links, this is probably not a company thats in business anymore either. So yet another ordinary residential house
Are you (and others who see similar) reporting these? I’m curious to see if any action is taken by the Pokémon GO team on these.
I was discussing it on Reddit and someone posted that this is the database/map that the Power Spots (which aren’t from Lightship) are being drawn from
https://explore.overturemaps.org/
I’ve checked and it 100% corresponds to all the low quality ones that aren’t Lightship portals in my local area.
No, I havent visited any of them and you cant report from a distance. Its raining and honestly I dont want to help dismantle this - it needs a rethink not the odd thing reported. Plus I honestly believe this is what they want
No. I didn’t do anything.
Maybe with beginning dynamax raids after the 10th the escalation is given by nature
I reported two as SFPRP yesterday. The one I can see on my nearby is still there this morning. Is that what you mean?
For anyone else who has trouble finding where to report them, you touch the ? and then the !
