Already, people have been seeing photo contributions, so clearly “not accepting edits” isn’t quite working.
What messaging is going out to the greater community, both reviewers and non Wayfarer participants, not part of the Wayforum about this experiment and what it means for Wayfarer eligibility?
Any way to apply restrictions to these experimental ones so they cannot be edited?
By this, will it be the image of the location as we have been seeing or a “Wayfarer” logo?
Will you be considering the suggestions posted on the original thread such as removing these once an area has sufficient waypoints and the ability to have “Criteria Acceptable” waypoints replace the imports?
Thanks
This seems like a really strange strategy. The intended goal is to allow players to become Wayfarer-eligible more quickly; but these new wayfinders are going to have a completely warped understanding of criteria after seeing large amounts of street corners and bus stops in game. In an effort to increase the number of Wayfinders, you’re also increasing the number of Wayfinders who don’t understand the criteria. I don’t know how this initiative can be perceived in any way other than “bus stops and street corners can now be PokeStops? Cool!” Sure, you made this post saying that these items are still ineligible, but let’s be real, how many newbie Wayfinders actually look at this forum? I just want to know if the team has considered any strategies to prevent any criteria misinformation as a result of these new Wayspots
This is also another case of the Wayfarer team going for the “forgiveness instead of permission” route with their announcements. Why does the team often announce these new changes a few weeks after they’re first put into place?
The other suggestions made was to have “proper” generic Titles such as “Imported Waypoint” and use the description to explain “Imported Waypoint that may not meet the usual criteria”.
Or, like with sponsored stops/gyms, have some type of ribbon on them to indicate they’re imports.
But I do like the idea of adding that it’s an import in the description, as well as restricting editing, as we’ve had some edits being submitted.
This is a great move and I’m glad to see Niantic working towards increasing the number of wayspots. I’m looking forward to seeing this rolled out more broadly, and would also love to see my street signs reinstated in the meantime.
So, when those trainers nominate more locations in the cells already occupied by the generated wayspots, the generated pokéstops will be deactivated to make room for the players’ submitted pokéstops, right?
(serious question, not trolling)
To be fair, they don’t need to ask us permission.
That also makes me wonder how much of this is actually from Wayfarer team vs a decision made by the PoGO team. Wayfarer seems to be the only group actively communicating these decisions so Tintino is left with making the positive spin on it, despite likely (but maybe likely not) realizing the difficulty it’ll actually present to the Wayfarer community.
Which also leads to wondering what feedback will actually be taken from us. Going back to PoGO, we’ll just sound like those ungrateful keepers of the keys that don’t want those rural players who apparently have an abundance of street corners to be able to play.
If that’s true, I’d like to retract my prior thanks to the Wayfarer team and instead extend them to the Pogo team, whose good decisions, per Tintino, might have a positive impact on Pikmin Bloom in the future (if another sync ever occurs). I can only hope that this trial is extended before that happens.
Thank you, pogo team, for forcing the hands of the Wayfarer team.
We should sound better.) We want more pokéstops — especially for rural players — and we have no reason to gatekeep; we don’t even have the keys.
I hope Recon 2: Electric Boogaloo will be the curated database of points of interest, and we’ll finally be able to decide what should go where.
Hi @Gendgi,
The auto-rejection will start next week.
For any already approved edits we’ve started manually reviewing and overturning any accepted edit to these Wayspots.
At this time, the official announcement in this forum is the messaging. If the experiment is successful and rolled out in an official initiative manner then we will look into broadening the messaging to areas such as our X account & Wayfarer Help Center.
Hi @cyndiepooh, not at this stage but we are looking into this if the experiment is successful and launched in more countries.
Thanks for the suggestions! I like this idea and will share it with the team.
Thanks for the question @holdthebeer. This is still an experiment so that is to be decided but generally speaking I agree with you. I think ideally they should be removed if and once a Wayfinder nominates a better, more interesting Wayspot in the area. I’ve shared this sentiment with the team ![]()
