Nomination Rejected - ICAR Main office (Government office)

I’m not experienced in nomination, and also since its sorta rural part of India its hard to find things to nominate, and also, pokestops and gyms are scarce.

So i put up my office i worked at as a POI but it got rejected reason being School (K-12) and Obstruct Emergency service and i’m so confused…

First of all ICAR means Indian Council of Agricultural Research… A place for research, showcase and fair. And by no means its a school… Sometimes College students comes during fair and celebration but that’s about it… also emergency service?? i honestly dont get it

What can i do to get it accepted? Or is office out of the question in general?

Maybe the issue was cuz in map it showed a school beside it but its like a km away… so maybe not (?)

Location: RWGG+F6G, Lamphelpat, Imphal, Manipur 795004, India
Description: ICAR Manipur’s main office is the nerve center where brilliant scientists and experts work on groundbreaking agricultural research. A beacon of knowledge and progress, this institution plays a vital role in shaping the future of farming in the region.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

I sympathize with the rejection and I agree that “school” and “emergency” is likely incorrect. However, incorrect rejections don’t necessarily mean that the location is eligible. Candidate wayspots need to meet one of the three following criteria: they have to be a great place to socialize, exercise or explore. It is not immediately obvious how the government agency you describe is a great place to do that, no matter how brilliant the scientists. If it is a place where adult education takes place that could certainly be something eligible, but it doesn’t sound like student education activities can happen at the office. If it is a research center that hosts demonstrable public visits to educate the community that could work too.

As it appears to be an office, I would suggest looking at other locations at the area being mindful of the above criteria.

Welcome to the forum!

Those rejection reasons don’t seem quite right, but my guess is that reviewers did not understand how this government office met any of the three main criteria, and used the closest reasons they could find. This is the acceptance criteria from Niantic Wayfarer

Must meet at least one of the three eligibility criteria

  • A great place for exploration
  • A great place for exercise
  • A great place to be social with others

You did explain what happens there in your description, but I don’t see that you convinced that this meets any of those three criteria. Did you mention the fairs or other educational outreach in the supporting?

I am not familiar with this kind of office to have an opinion as to whether it could meet criteria.

I wrote the top part of this message based on the nomination description and photos without looking up the site. When I checked the location on this map of Ingress portals, I was very surprised your office was not marked as a duplicate of this Wayspot:

And I can see your building is in the background of another Wayspot photo:

So you might have a difficult time convincing reviewers to accept that another Wayspot should be accepted here.

Thank you so much for the reply. So basically, I have to convince the reviewers that the POI meets the criteria. Honestly, it’s just a regular office, so I’m not sure if I can describe it as a good place for exploration or exercise. Maybe for socializing, but it’s not like I’m going to meet new people there—just the staff. I’ll skip this office and try to nominate other locations that better fit the criteria.

Also, may I ask if, in the case of buildings and similar places, the criteria apply only to the inside and not the surroundings? For example, if there’s an open space around a building (which belongs to the building) used for outdoor events where people gather, but that area has no specific name, can I use the building’s name to nominate that place?

Oh, so it’s like how the YouTube guide says I can only nominate one POI per square? The blue main building is the one I’m trying to nominate, so would it work if I used the other entrance on the right?

Also, thank you for helping me understand that I need to convince reviewers why it’s a POI rather than just describing the area. I’ll try to improve my next nomination based on that.

Could you please tell me how you checked the other Wayspot and created that square grid?

You can have more Wayspots, but only one in each square (L17 S2 cell) can appear in Pokemon Go.

I am not allowed to directly link these tools, but what I used here is a map of ingress portals called iitc with a pogotools overlay called pogo-s2. The readme for pogo-s2 tells you how to install.

This is a map of portals, so not all wayspots will be there. But the S2 cell grid and wayspots that do show will be accurately placed.

I am not savvy enough to help if you have installation problems, but there are lots of folks on the Wayfarer Discussion Discord who are.

I am so glad that Niantic is allowing us to freely discuss S2 cells on the forum, so I always am careful to state that misusing this knowledge to place pins where they will show up rather than where the objects actually exist is abuse. Only use cell knowledge to know where to look for candidates to submit.

A full explanation of how Pokemon Go uses S2 cells is in this article:

https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

Please note that Wayspots not used as Pokemon Go stops or gyms have been used in the past to create Powerspots. This process seems to be paused at the moment, but I go ahead and submit great Wayspots whether they will show in Pokemon Go or not!

So then you have your answer regarding this specific location - reviewers will be convinced way more easily with an eligible object. And yes, you are thinking in the exact right direction, the building itself might struggle with eligibility, but it might have artwork, an outdoor seating area, a sport amenity (this is not an exhaustive list nor is it a suggestion that all of this is available at your location - it’s just random examples for each of the three criteria) that would be better nominated instead.
