I guess it’s a loaded request for clarification. There is what I believe to be a Public Open Space, owned and managed by the council. Only problem is that it can only be got to via David Lloyds Gym / Club / < insert appropriate swear word here >. There is a pedestrian access that exist which goes to the residential area that is one way.. I am working on the assumption that Google Maps is out of date (in terms of the satellite view), so I don’t know what’s on that land.
- Would the Open Space (if anything exciting exists on there) qualify?
- Would the Tennis Court / Swimming pool owned by David Lloyds be acceptable?
Steps away from the keyboard before a staff member schools me again
If it is accessible to the public (or members thereof), even if that requires a paid admission charge, that’s allowed! I’m a California player, and there’s stops and gyms in every single cell inside Disneyland (Anaheim).
I believe your previous thread involved the property of a school, which is automatically ineligible. IF this is being used as a school (noting the “golf academy” tag in picture), that would be a problem here too.
To get to the Open Space, you would need to either go via the barrier protected car park or by foot and don’t need to pay (AFAIK) to get there by foot. In terms of the Tennis Court and Swimming pool, am concerned about it being part of a national chain, which is why I am being skeptical.
National chain of what?
If it’s a commercial fitness gym or something like that… not a problem.
National chain of Gyms. I’m personally not a fan of chains of businesses…
Normally, chain businesses aren’t themselves eligible due to lack of uniqueness. HOWEVER:
-
fitness gyms are generally an exception to that rule anyway, and
-
Tennis courts and swimming pools are, as far as I am personally aware, always acceptable unless located in an ineligible location.
Absolutely submit all of it. I filled a load of cells at my local gym, which is a “Better” (who can afford David Lloyd?!) with all the different fun stuff there, and you can do the same there. I believe you’d be able to just walk in and look around, they’d probably be happy if they thought you might sign up
If you saw the size of me, they probably think I’m only signing up to go to the all you can eat buffet!
Fit, sporty and strong can come in any size
I should know
The gym /fitness club facilitates exercise and socialisation. That’s its function. So it’s not about the business it’s about the function.
So gyms are eligible and the separate items such as a pool can also be considered, just as you would at a council run leisure centre ( councils are big business too
)
To go back to the question as long as this field is not primarily for child use it could be considered.
Well yes. My comment about chain businesses was because of uniqueness. It’s easier to argue for an independent restaurant than a chain restaurant, that sort of thing.
For what it’s worth, the David Lloyd gym in our town has been a wayspot for a very long time now. Pretty sure it was accepted before we ever had the clarifications on gyms that we have today, and the clarifications only solidify that such places are great places to exercise, so you could definitely submit it. You might have to use an appeal to get it accepted, depending on who reviews your nomination and how familiar they are with the guidelines, but it should be a fairly easy spot to get accepted.
As for anything on the field, it’s a public space, so seems like a perfectly good spot for some eligible nominations if there are any to submit.
Paid the Open Space a visit and it was empty of anything interesting to submit. Got a few nice butterflies… and a flytip… but don’t think they qualify.
As for David Lloyds, unless I pay to get in, I won’t be nominating the Tennis Courts or the Swimming Pool…which is a shame. Sadly, don’t know of any Pogo Players who are members there.
Sucks you cant even look around as a prospective member!
I believe there is a payment required in order to look around as a guest… but not 100% sure… however if I know someone who is a member, I could get in for free…but I don’t know anyone.
