Photos haven't synced

Also facing this issue. It’s honestly laughable how bad this *crowdsourced nomination system keeps getting.

Hello and welcome,

Are you able to provide info about the Wayspots that do not have accepted photos showing in game?

Also, crowdfunding isn’t what we are quite doing with Wayfarer, as you don’t necessarily have to spend money to add or edit the Lightship map; it’s free to submit. I think crowdsourcing would be a better term.

Yeah, wrong word, oops, my bad.

About the photos, they are finally showing in the wayspot now after 2 or 3 days. But it is strange considering all six were approved at once all at the same time presumably by ML, but only one of them out of them all was added to the games immediately after that. And it wasn’t even the first or last one sent either, it was just a random one out of the six pictures I sent.

It can take around 48 hours for photos to show up, even if they are approved quickly by ML. This is noted in the acceptance emails.

Interesting, I didn’t notice that, thanks for pointing out.

As for the discrepancy between the time they show up, what could possibly make one picture get approved immediately and the other take longer? Just wondering.

I’ve noticed that a good deal of my photos that get approved by ML are similar to the other photos already at the Wayspot, but maybe in a slightly different position. Here’s an example of a photo for a gazebo I submitted that ML accepted within about a minute of submission; you can see that it’s the same gazebo, just at a different location (in front of the gazebo instead of to the side):

As for ones that may go take longer for ML to decide or even go into community voting, there could be a variety of reasons. For example, a church may have changed their name, but it’s still a church. If the sign for the church is being used as the photo for it, and there is a photo of the sign with the old name on it, new photos of the sign with the new name on it may go into community voting.

One of mine that I can think of that went into community voting was for a small park and picnic area at a business park. The main photo is of some of the landscaping, not showing any of the picnic area. I submitted a photo that shows the picnic area along with the landscaping in the photo, but it was still sent into community voting (it was approved, BTW).

Even though some of the office buildings can be seen in the background of both photos, I think ML had a hard time placing the photo in the area; the picnic area can also be seen on satellite and Streeet view, but there also wasn’t a description for this Wayspot, so that could have also been an issue for ML to determine if my photo was accurate or not.

Here’s another one of mine that went into community voting for a church. The main photo was taken during the day, while I took one at night, to showcase the stained glass roof. Even though these were taken at about the same location, I think being it was taken at night, ML couldn’t quite tell if it was the same church. This one was also approved by the community.

Really interesting insight into the topic. Thank you for the in-depth analysis. While I still believe there may be some tech issue going on, maybe it is also related to the ML which has been notably acting up and absent the last few weeks

Is your primary game you’re looking at imagines in Pokémon GO or Ingress?

Pokémon. Ingress takes even longer, usually a whole day longer.

In PoGO, the photos usually show up instantaneously, but not on the preview screen you usually see them.

As soon as the photo is approved (you should get an email confirmation plus the “accepted” mark on the contributions page) you can typically view the photo. Tap on a photo, and then “swipe” through them like a gallery and it should appear. I’ve been able to add a photo, seen it approved, and upvote it while waiting for the light to change at an intersection. Once normal sync hits in PoGO you should be able to see the photo like normal.

In Ingress, there’s no way to see the new photo until full sync, which is when any new Portal would show up each day.

Interesting. What happened right this week with me is that only one of the entire batch of six photos appeared instantly. The other 5 appeared only today, after what I presume is a full sync you talk about.

Currently I have another approved photo uploaded today and marked as accepted instantly but not showing right away, and it’s still not visible in the game, either in the thumbnail list or by swiping the full screen pictures until the end.

This kind of inconsistent behavior isn’t what I’d honestly call “by design” so it’s expected that I assumed it was a bug
