Pokémon spawns disappeared after Pokéstop to Gym conversion - Skoki, Poland

Hi Niantic Team,

I am reporting a total loss of Pokémon spawns at a newly created Gym.

Wayspot Name: Saint Nicholas Church (Kościół św. Mikołaja)
Coordinates: 52.67056, 17.14891
Location Skoki Poland

Skoki, Since the Pokéstop was converted into a Gym, the area has become a “dead zone” with no spawns on the Nearby radar. Please investigate the S2 cells and refresh spawn data. Thank you!

Hello. This is an issue related to Pokemon Go, not an issue related to Wayfarer. You could raise a support ticket with the Pokemon Go team (How to Contact Support — Pokémon GO Help Center). The Wayfarer team will not be able to assist you.

Thank you for the clarification. I have already contacted in-game support, but received only automated responses. Since this issue started exactly during the Pokéstop-to-Gym conversion, I suspected a database sync error. I will try to reach out to the Pokémon GO team again as suggested."

“Understood. I have contacted Pokémon GO support again with the details of this conversion bug. Hopefully, the technical team can refresh the spawn points. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.”

Wayfarer only updates and maintains the database of wayspots.

The game developers decide which will be used and what for.

Not sure how much you have used the new map but 1 thing I noticed is that accepted wayspots are added to the map as unused, there is then a delay until a 2nd sync where PoGo updates Wayfarer of what it is being used as.

Good luck.

Actually, this Gym has been here for about 2 years. But here is the most important part: before it became a Gym, it was a Pokéstop, and back then, there were many more Pokémon spawns. >

As soon as it converted into a Gym, the spawns almost completely disappeared and it has stayed that way for 2 years. This confirms that the conversion process itself broke the spawn points for this location. It’s not an OSM issue or a sync delay – it’s a database error from the time of the upgrade. Can a moderator please look into this?"

My mentioning of the sync may have confused matters a little, what I was trying to say is the syncs show that Wayfarer has to wait for PoGo to update what the waypoint will be used for.

Wayfarer just deals with a database of waypoints. Pokemon Go takes that database and decides which will be used and what for.

This might be true but it is Pokemon Go that deal with the “conversion process” not wayfarer.

Nobody here will be able to take a look as this forum is only for Wayfarer and this is a Pokemon Go problem.

A few points once a pokestop converts to a gym you no longer see spawns for that place on the nearby in game. This may have initially created impression of the spawns being suddenly gone. Not a wayfarer issue
The game developers change spawn points on a global basis from time to time. Not a wayfarer issue
Reasons that a location loses spawns
A property owner request - seems unlikely since they would normally request removal of a wayspot too.
Open Street Map data. Check how this is recorded on open street map. The game uses that data and certain types of OSM tags block spawns. Not a wayfarer issue.

I realise it’s frustrating but this really is not something we can assist with.

Hey @PoGoKrzychuKR7 ,

I’ve looked into your report and found that there isn’t any issue with spawns at the location you’ve indicated. Please note that locations where Pokémon can be encountered can always change, and they won’t always show up in the same places.

Best,
