Hi guys,
so some old Pokestops were removed in my area. And a little while later some more got deleted. Now we have a discussion in our group, if it would be possible if the Wayfarer team did this on their own, like they check our whole city because some POIs were not there anymore or if its only possible if somebody requests to remove the pokestops.
What do you think?

There are many ways that this could have happened. If they are all in the same area, my first guess would be that a property owner had learned they could have them removed and asked Niantic to do that.
Other Wayfarers could have reported them for removal as well, if they met removal criteria. That would be my second guess. It could have been someone in person, or someone who came across the Wayspots another way, most likely while reviewing nominations.
It is also possible that Niantic was checking an area and removed these. We hear the least about this kind of removal, so I don’t have an idea how often this happens.
The area i mean is a 2km radius, so couldnt be a property owner. Then its probably someone who reported them right?
Most likely imo, but I do not have any inside knowledge of Niantic’s procedures. If you think that any should not have been removed, then you can appeal to have them restored in Wayspot Appeals - but do have evidence that they still exist. I would appeal each one separately.
technically, government or military reach could expand this far if the people in charge want pogo out of their area. so not out of the realm of possibility.
but that would probably be a removal of all locations, not picking and choosing older ones.
