Pokestop Removed

My pokestop in POGO I nominated of the Burst Bridge crest was accepted and added as a pokestop, but suddenly today it disappeared. I even made a route for it, and now it can’t be followed, which is frustrating me. I didn’t get a reason for removal or email or anything. Any ideas?

Here’s proof of it existing

Welcome to the forum.

You don’t get an email about Wayspot being removed - unless they are also giving you a warning for abuse when they remove it.

If you have the gps coordinates, we can see if the Wayspot has been removed, or just the Pokestop.

This appears to be a generic neighbourhood entrance sign. I can see other signs that are identical to this one at around 34.289565,-84.188023 and on the opposite side of the entrance to that.

Judging by the text in your nomination, it almost seems like an attempt to misrepresent it as something else, and I’m wondering if this could be the reason why it was removed.

For what it’s worth, I did look up the place, and what you have said about the origin of the name may or may not be true, but the actual sign is not a memorial of that event, it’s just one of several neighbourhood entrance signs that are pretty much identical to the one you submitted, and those often don’t meet criteria by themselves.

It appears to have been completely removed.

Unfortunately I can’t really tell you why. It appears that the sign is across the street from this pin. Possibly someone saw this and reported it for correction.

I don’t feel that signs like this meet criteria, but I also don’t think Niantic removes them without a good reason, like pedestrian access or SFPRP (single family private residential property), or a request from a homeowner or homeowner’s association. Staff may explain why it was removed to you, but they may not. Sorry I can’t help more.

If it’s a bad nomination, why did it get accepted in the first place?

The review process is mostly done by human beings, and human error is definitely a thing that exists and sometimes occurs during wayfarer reviews. I am curious if this was voted on by the community or by Niantic reviewers though.

Hello! I’m actually the one who reported it for abuse so I am not sure why the others before me accepted it. I reported it because in your description you said it’s “memorializing a real bridge that burnt down in that same location many years ago” when that is just a normal neighborhood entrance sign with no significant background in Cumming Georgia. It’s one of the newer neighborhoods too in Cumming Georgia too. There have been no Bridges that have burned down. Let alone neighborhoods named after them. Or in that “same exact location”. You are not allowed to lie on a PokéStop description, or on any part of the submission. Submitting false or misleading information is a form of abuse. And as you can see, I reviewed your submission November 25th, 2025. I would suggest you resubmit it (to the correct side of the road) with an accurate description of the entrance sign. If it was accepted by people before me, i’m sure it would be accepted again. This time just don’t be inaccurate in the description.

Well when I meant memorializing, I was geared towards the neighborhood name, it was named that to memorialize the bridge. Also wow, that is a LOT of dedication just to remove my nomination. Kinda much, but I’ll resubmit and change my wording as many others said the same thing.

Not really.

The story as it’s unraveling is they flagged it as abuse and staff got around to reviewing the ticket after it was community accepted. Staff presumably decided to remove the Wayspot after their investigation.

What sounds like “dedication” was that they spent more time researching your nomination than you did.

Reminder that we also said that we do not believe this meets criteria.

A general reminder that you need to submit accurate points of interest. The description and location need to be accurate.

Hey @Nj0820 ,

We have restored this Wayspot and you should see the changes reflected soon.

Thanks,

Well, that’s not what any of the expert Wayfinders wanted…

It is a surprising and slightly disappointing result. It was unusual to see a generic neighbourhood sign removed, because it’s much harder to get things removed then get them added. Once it had been removed, for Niantic to put it back is a strong implicit indication that they like these generic neighbourhood signs that no-one pays attention to except people who want them as pokestops.

Had the situation been left as it was without comment from Niantic, this would have maintained a neutral position, as it would not have been possible to determine their position on these signs (we could assume the reason for removal but not know it).

Or, they simply said it doesn’t meet a removal criteria no matter what any preference actually is so they had to restore it

I wonder how we are supposed to give the best advice on these situations when we only know from previous situations and criteria when This just confuses the most of the community more and more.

I considered that possibility

I don’t see that Niantic were forced to reinstate if they didn’t want to.
