Pokestop sharing waypoints with other games

Why cant there be a pokestop on a same location as another games waypoint. I think its stupid that you cant do that and it limits the games potential. Apparently there have been pokestops nominations that have been turned down because they are considered “duplicates” but not for the same game. Like what is up with that, it makes no sense to limit a games progress just so another game can only have exclusive rights to that location in the game.

Welcome to the forum @PhoenixShade96

You haven’t quite got your facts right there. Some wayspots can be used in multiple games, not just Pokémon Go, but each game’s development team sets their own density rules for their game map, so not all wayspots will be able to appear in all games. Some may end up going unused in any game for the time being, though they may be used in future games if Scopely chooses to use the database for those games.

I’m sure @cyndiepooh is replying right now with a good post on how Pokémon Go uses wayspots, so I’ll leave that up to her to give you that explanation.

Are you talking about an image like this?

If you see this without a photo, it is most likely an import from a database that was added only to create potential Power Spots, and is not a submitted Wayspot.

If you see something like this next example, it is most likely a submitted Wayspot that is not eligible to be a Pokestop or gym based on S2 cell rules:

Either that, or the daily sync that adds Pokestops and gyms to the game has not happened yet. That is why the email will say the part about “48 hours.”

If you would like to learn more about how Pokemon Go uses S2 cells, I recommend this article:
https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

To help you visualize the L17 S2 cells, here is where that Wayspot is located:

The blue dot is already a Pokestop, so the orange dot cannot be one, since they share this cell.

They definitely can be used in multiple games if they meet the requirements for all those games.

We met the requirements and apparently they got denied for them. We did a plaque and a water bubbler that was there for very long time and still is and both were turned down by a few people trying to get them turned into pokestops with the explanation that they were duplicates when they weren’t.

I still don’t understand what you are saying. If you check the nomination map screen while you are on the site, you can see existing wayspots that are not used in pokemon go if you have the toggle on. Like this one:

Tap on the ! to bring up the information that I shared in my previous post. If your nomination was rejected as duplicate, it is already a Wayspot. If it is not being used in Pokemon Go, then it is not eligible to be used in that game.

If you leave a screenshot of your nomiantion and its gps coordinates, I can try to illustrate, but the map I use is for Ingress, and that is no longer updating with new wayspots.

Processing: 1000013330.jpg…

These 2 spots where they are circled theres nothing similar to them at all anywhere near them yet their considered duplicate. Also idk if i did this right.

you need to wait a bit before hitting reply for the upload to complete. i just see this.

It wont process the image and im not understanding why. Im on 5g so it should have uploaded very quickly.

hmm. can you copy and paste the gps coordinates from the email you got when you submitted the nomination? they will be underneath the supporting photo.

Thats the thing its not just mine, but i did one too of the same one before finding out that the one i did was also nominated back in 2020 and turned down for a duplicate. There was no ! on the screen when i made it too and was told that it would be turned down as a duplicate just like the last 2 who tried before me. But i can try and look at mine and see if that does the same thing

okay i am about to head out to play pogo, but someone else can pick up from here if you find that information. just leaving a general location should help someone find it.

fyi pond aerators are not eligible wayspots if that is what you mean by a bubbler.

37 S Washington St, North Attleborough, MA 02760, USA
for the World War Plaque and mine isn’t on there yet its still in que. And the other is to the right Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain 1911

Its like a drinking fountain that has a historical history to it

are any of these basically the same as what you submitted? a plaque would be considered a duplicate. these wayspots should be showing up on that nomination map screen as ! when you are right there. it does not work remotely.

oops the titles got cut off:

I just had a thought. Maybe it is the language that is confusing. Despite what the prompt says, you do not submit a “Pokestop.” You submit a “Wayspot.” The message you are getting is that this is already a Wayspot, not that it is already a Pokestop. Gotta run.

I just dont see how WW1 and WW2 are the same war plagues, like are people literally going to say oh none of those people really matter they all died in the same war… and i was right next to it just good enough to get a picture of it so it could be a clear photo and i didn’t see them apear when i was making it.

Ok here is a picture of the area with some wayspots on it.

Note of caution this map as not been updated for 9 weeks

The one withe yellow circle around it, is the WW2 one that Cyndie showed above. It appears to be on its own within the green box.
Does the WW2 memorial appear in Pokémon Go ?

The box next to it I have picked out in purple.
That has 4 wayspots within it.
1 WW1 memorial
2 Amvets memorial bandstand
3 women’s Christian temperance fountain
4 Kathleen fuller Mckeil plaque

Due to the Pokémon Go Teams selection rules only 1 of those 4 can appear in Pokémon Go.
Looking at Campfire it seems to be the bandstand that is a Pokestop. Is that correct?

It sounds as though you are submitting the fountain (3) and WW 1 plaque on the memorial (1). As they are already in the database they will be marked as duplicates.

As these are in the database and are in a box that already has a pokestop , they can’t appear as pokestops, but maybe some are appearing as powerspots?

If these are not the objects then please do tell us more about what you are submitting.

Hope this helps

All this information all at once just made me more confused.
Yes the World War 2 appears on here.
Bandstand is a pokestop.
But why cant more than 1 occupy 1 square?
