Hi @PkmnTrainerJ
Is there any outcome / feedback / answer to this escalation?
Hi, nothing I can share as yet but do keep sharing any bad examples you see in here so they can be escalated
I was poking around and I don’t know if it will let me add it.
No, I can’t add the file but you can acquire a sample CSV file from 4sq.
It shows expected headings like:
- Name
- Location
- Category Labels (such as Dining and Drinking > Restaurant > Steakhouse and Health and Medicine > Dentist)
- Closed_bucket (indicates whether a business is permanently closed or likely to be closed)
- Opening Hours
- Description (most of these are blank in the sample one though)
- Photos
- Then a few specific to 4sq such as whether a restaurant has a coat check, or takes credit cards that aren’t really relevant to Wayfarer
If the teams got something like this to import in to Wayfarer for Brazil, they could have spent a little time trying to narrow it down.
Eliminate anything with no category or a category like “High School”. If a business is permanently closed, maybe don’t import that. Check the photos and see if they’re good to be added (I don’t know if there’s something that means that they cannot use those photos).
Just anything rather than dumping it all in, and then maybe cleaning up later sounds much better to me.
Thank you @PkmnTrainerJ
That there’re possible solutions is one side.
More important, for me, would be, that on an escalation any type of response is necessary. Even when they decide to do nothing with it.
Imo that is an act of appreciation to the community.
I just hope that in the next import this doesn’t happen again.
Sounds like they just dumped the whole thing in without doing any sort of data checks?
You can’t really offer advice on improvements to that process because thats a clear indication that all they wanted was quantity and that quality, accuracy or safety were not a consideration. Goal achieved - schools imported -
A court will judge it
Sounds like it, if they got the same kind of CSV file/data that I could get a free sample of.
I would much rather it have just gone on Pokémon GO (as they seemed to be the only ones who wanted them) and been akin to Community Ambassador/GO Fest/promotional PokéStops like this one.
So that it wasn’t causing confusion and clogging up the maps with garbage.
Narrator: It happened again.
Yeah like adding them as kind of event based spots that arent linked to a specific location - that would have been much better in my opinion
I have absolutely no idea why they didnt filter the list. It seems they had no interest in the contents beyond it being as many points as possible within a geographic area
I’ve only looked at the list on my phone for the sample.
I’m sure if I actually opened it in Excel I could do some fancy filtering in about 15 minutes that removes most of the terrible/ineligible things. Maybe give me an hour and a coffee break to get it perfect.
And what do you think how we get Niantic to believe that theire map is an effort of 15 min worthy?
(Personal thoughts before anyone gets grumpy)
I think that unfortunately Wayfarer is a tiny voice going:
ᵐᵒˢᵗ ᵒᶠ ᵗʰᵉˢᵉ ⁿᵉʷ ᴾᵒᵏᵉˢᵗᵒᵖˢ ᵃʳᵉ ᵗᵉʳʳᶦᵇˡᵉ ᵃⁿᵈ ᵈᵒⁿ’ᵗ ᵐᵉᵉᵗ ᵂᵃʸᶠᵃʳᵉʳ ᶜʳᶦᵗᵉʳᶦᵃ ᵃᵗ ᵃˡˡ, ᵃⁿᵈ ᶦᵗ’ˢ ᶜᵒⁿᶠᵘˢᶦⁿᵍ ᶠᵒʳ ᵃⁿʸᵒⁿᵉ ʷᵃⁿᵗᶦⁿᵍ ᵗᵒ ᵍᵉᵗ ᶦⁿ ᵗᵒ ᵂᵃʸᶠᵃʳᵉʳ
Whereas the Pokémon GO community in the countries where it’s been done are going:
Wᴏᴏ! F’YEAH! Mᴏʀᴇ ᴛʜɪɴɢs ᴛᴏ sᴘɪɴ ᴀɴᴅ ɢᴇᴛ ɪᴛᴇᴍs ғʀᴏᴍ! Wᴀʏғᴀʀᴇʀ? Wʜᴀᴛ’s ᴛʜᴀᴛ ʀᴜʙʙɪsʜ?
So I don’t know what can be done to make the second group change their minds.
Yeah agreed, its not a big job to have filtered it a bit.
And with your 2nd post, your previous idea of adding them as standalone niantic stops would have kept both groups happy - people who just want lots of stops to spin would be happy with them, and wayfarer wouldnt have had a lot of rubbish added. I do think the PoGo players would dislike having bad and non existant pictures though to be fair, gifts like that are rubbish and it makes the game look unfinished
From my experience, many Pokémon GO players I know never even look at the title/description/photo. But of course, your mileage may vary.
I don’t think that changing consumers mindset is needed
When the Wayfarer team and managers import location data from the Foursquare database to the Wayfarer database, they import everything without worrying about ineligible categories or location inaccuracies, which has never changed since the first import It has not changed since the first import.
They seem to take pride in storing coal, not diamonds, in their database.
Given this, in their mind, filtering out ineligible wayspots and editing location information, titles and descriptions is a job that should be done by game users, not by them.
And as long as they insist on only importing into the Wayfarer database, the Wayfarer database will continue to be broken.
It seems pretty obvious by now after three horrible imports and a quick turnaround on the K12 criteria that the Go team say M0ar and the Wayfarer team have been left impotent by Niantic to do anything about it.
Maybe the next import will be in the UK, US, France, Australia, Canada…nah do another country like Brazil, India…
I’m sure at the next import you’ll be saying the same @tp235. I’m sure I’ll get another 30 day or longer ban for attempting to cause dissent
Oh well…

…but why would I want to do a thing like that?
Omg you’re back! I’ve missed you
I didnt know it was a decision by a different team, interesting, I suppose that makes some sort of sense. But it makes it very confusing for pokemon players who submit but without being really into wayfarer - they already see things that dont meet current criteria but if they’re now seeing schools etc, theyre risking bans by just submitting more of what they already see
