I have a question regarding a change to a Wayfarer location that was accepted by the community but hasn’t appeared in the game. I suggested a small cable car (I don’t know if that’s the correct English term; in Germany we call it a “Seilbahn”) as the location, and it was accepted, but it hasn’t shown up in the game. I suggested the location in “Pokémon Go.” I received the notification over 48 hours ago, so the location shouldn’t appear anymore since the 48-hour period has expired.
Just to be on the safe side, I downloaded the games “MH Now”, “Pikmin Bloom” & “Ingress” to see if the ad appeared there. It didn’t.
I did some research on why a PokéStop sometimes doesn’t appear in the game even though it’s been accepted. One reason could be the “cell system,” specifically the “S2 cells.” So I checked on a website, and my suggestion is indeed located in an S2 cell where another PokéStop is already situated.
I’ve attached two images to illustrate the situation: The green dot number 3 (Google Maps coordinates: 47.922267, 8.442373) is an existing spot that’s displayed in the game. The blue lines show the S2 cells. The red dot number 1 (Google Maps coordinates: 47.922346, 8.442556) is the location of my accepted suggestion. Since my suggestion is for a cable car, it naturally has two locations: the beginning and the end. I chose red dot 1 because I wasn’t yet aware of the S2 cells. But as you can see, the “end” of the cable car, red dot 2 (Google Maps coordinates: 47.922143, 8.442556) in the image, is in a different S2 cell, and that’s where the spot would likely appear in the game.
This is a bit frustrating because there are hardly any PokeStops in my area, and I’m always so envious of gamers in big cities. They have PokeStops galore, and often two or three spots within five meters. Since that’s not the case here, losing an accepted spot is all the more annoying.
Is there a way to change the location of the spot so that it appears in the game?
That’s frustrating. Unfortunately if the location is technically correct where it was submitted it likely won’t be moved to another location, that’s just as correct, to get it to appear in a game.
I’ll point out this is an opportunity to potentially get a power spot if the waypoints are far enough apart.
Also, there appears to be a trail that is labeled in Google maps going through the park. Is there any signage for the trail or the park at the southern end? If not, is there an official means of getting one in place? That could create an anchor point for the trail or park that could be nominated as well.
become a Powerspot (Dynamax / Gigantamax) depending on its proximity to other waypoints.
replace the existing waypoint if that is removed for legitimate reasons. ***
be used in other Scopely games.
***Do Not attempt to get a legitimate wayspot removed just to get yours on to the map. This is seen as Abuse and can lead to suspension / bans of all accounts (Wayfarer, Pokemon Go and any other Scopely games).
Also the forest to the west of that seems to be marked with several named trails (e.g. Relation: Guldenen - Waldhausen Mühle (18362095) | OpenStreetMap), these are often good for wayspots if you can find trail markers. I know that’s a longer walk still but that’s all part of exploring..
Thanks for your replies
It’s a shame I chose the wrong location. An additional PokéStop, or even better, a Gym, would have been fantastic.
I’ve submitted several locations now and marked them in red on the map. Fortunately, they were all accepted and are in the game. I walk past them almost daily to get at least a few gifts for my in-game friends (but unfortunately, the gifts aren’t always enough for everyone; I have too many in-game friends and too few PokéStops, or rather, too little time to walk the long distances (if it weren’t for work, I’d have the time :-D)). It takes approximately 2.5 hours to visit all the PokeStops here. Sadly, only three of them turned into Gyms :-o
But the racetrack idea is good - I’ll definitely submit that
I just wanted to ask if it’s possible to customize something like that. Because I really feel at a disadvantage here in the “rural” area compared to players in the city. But I have to deal with it— the game is still fun, but it’s considerably more difficult than in cities.
I myself am not in a City but then I wouldn’t class the area as a “waypoint desert”. I do not have a “Couch Stop / Gym” and doing a 1 mile walk gets me 2 stops & 1 Gym.
I am actually 1 of the few that prefer it this way, I would have got bored quickly if I was just playing the game from home.
We also have to remember that City Players also have issues that make it harder than “Rural Areas”…
Less chance of staying in a Gym for the 8 hours 10 minutes to get 50 coins.
Less chance of winning the “Showcase” when you are 1 of 50 entering instead of 1 of 2.
You just have to play with what you have and maybe improve it bit by bit when possible.
You’re right, you have to play with what you have
And then contribute locations bit by bit as they become available.
The Showcase is definitely a great advantage, I agree with you there. The Gym thing, not so much. I hardly earn anything because my Pokémon are in the Gym and nobody comes along and defeats them. They’ve been there for over 140 days, so I’m not earning anything from it, unfortunately
Now that you have an understanding of S2 cells, the level 17 cells are basically for pokestop density and level 14 for gym density. When you get 2 pokestops in an L14 one will become a gym and then again at 6 and 20 Poké-places.
I do get some that get “stuck” but none of the “Local” ones have been that long. A few weeks at the most.
Do you not have another player that you can arrange to knock each others out?
With a bit of organisation you could arrange that on the odd numbered days you knock his out of Gym A and he knocks yours out of Gym B then on Even days you do the opposite.
You should be able to get the full 350 coins a week if the above is possible.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any friends or acquaintances I know personally who play the game. I know there are two other players in my area — I see them occasionally at showcases. But I’ve never met them in person, and I don’t know how to add them as friends. It doesn’t work by gamername alone, and I can’t find them on Campfire or anything like that. Not even on external sites where you can exchange gamer name + trainer code. One of them is on the same team as me (Wisdom), the other is on Team Valor. But the one on Team Valor has never attacked any gyms. It seems like he’s not that interested.
I always try to be a bit more active with gyms when I go to a bigger city. But that always gets me grief from my wife As soon as I’m in a city with her, I start Pokémon Go and check out the situation—she always rolls her eyes, and I always hear, “You’re always on your phone when we’re out, put it down!” xD
I probably just live in the wrong place to really get going because the community is lacking. But it’s still fun. Everything’s a bit slower and more tiring, but I still manage to find Pokémon.
I’m kind of “forced” to play alone because there’s just not much going on here.
I started playing Pokémon Go in 2016 when it came out, but stopped after a month or two because it was kind of boring and there wasn’t much to do.
Then, when my wife and I got a dog, I thought I’d download and play Pokémon Go again. I walk the dog anyway — why not catch a few Pokémon while I’m at it? And then, in the middle of the year, it really captivated me; it’s just so much fun. When I discovered that you can also suggest locations for gyms and PokéStops, I started looking for them. Currently, 24 locations have been accepted, but not all of them appear in the game. I only found out why two days ago — it’s because of the S2 cells. If I had known that earlier, or if it had been explained somewhere in Pokémon Go when submitting suggestions, I would have simply moved the location to the other end of the cable car in this thread (it’s still correct in terms of location). Oh well, I really messed that up, unfortunately.
My wife doesn’t want to play, I already asked her. Pokémon isn’t really her thing. I grew up with Pokémon. When I first played Pokémon Red on the Game Boy as a kid, I was fascinated. Then I lost track of Pokémon for a while, but now I’ve rediscovered it.
It’s a shame about the gyms here; that’s what it looks like for me:
I create Gyms often in the middle of nowhere (I really explore for Ingress, wayspots in the middle of nowhere are great), what surprises me that even in the most remote location somebody always finds the gym..
I used to get surprised by the number of people who find the gyms near me and I never see them playing the game. Late at night, sometimes in the wee hours of the morning, visiting gyms along paths in the woods.
Is there anywhere I can see how many people have used the suggested, accepted, and in-game spots? I’d be very interested to know that for mine as well.
It would be great to know that detail I can imagine spending hours just looking at numbers. It’s a detailed version of the monthly emails, which I know a lot of us find interesting.
Although game play can inspire players to do wayfarer, just a reminder that interesting though it has been to read the difficulties of Pokémon Go play this is a forum about wayfarer so the focus of discussion needs to remain on that.
The monthly emails that show stats for your own submissions are nice, especially the very high number of interactions that can be found. Anything like a heatmap of wayspots, while being very interesting, are something that I cannot imagine Niantic providing.
Maybe someday we’ll get the chance to study the spot statistics
Sorry for the deviation from the actual discussion in this forum post - it won’t happen again
I have one last message regarding the actual topic.
This morning I filled out the form at Request modification or removal of a PokéStop or Gym – Pokémon GO and described my issue there, just like in the forum, with pictures, what’s happening, etc.
I just received a reply:
"Hello Simon,
Thank you for taking the time to write in and share such detailed information about your Wayspot submission, “Seilrutsche am Galgenberg.”
We have reviewed your request and the evidence provided. We have processed the location edit for the Wayspot to the new location you suggested. You should see this change reflected in the database soon.
Please note that while we have adjusted the location, we cannot guarantee that the Wayspot will appear in Pokémon GO. The inclusion of Wayspots in specific games is determined by automated proximity and density rules.
Regarding your check of other games, please be aware that new Wayspot nominations submitted via Pokémon GO do not appear in Ingress.
We appreciate your dedication to improving the game map for your community.
Best regards, Niantic Support"
That’s great news, and I’m delighted. Let’s see if the ad will appear. Contacting support was definitely worthwhile.
