Ready, Set, GO! The Wayfarer Map is finally here!

Hello Wayfinders,

It brings me great pleasure to share that the :drum::drum::drum::drum::drum::drum: Wayfarer Map is finally here!!! This has been probably one of the most anticipated additions to Wayfarer and starting today, eligible Wayfinders will be able to browse the globe for Wayspots within Pokémon GO, Wayspots eligible to appear in all other Niantic games, and so much more!

We hope the Wayfarer Map will not only empower you to explore your local community but also discover a new way to enhance your world through Wayfarer’s mission of exploration, exercise, and community.

Where can I find the Niantic Map?

All Wayfinders will now be able to find and use the Wayfarer map after signing into the Wayfarer website where you’ll also notice that it’s replaced the Showcase button as our new landing page after signing in.

What can you do on the Niantic Map?

  • Search by location like you would be able to on other maps including lat/lon coordinates, cities, towns, businesses, parks, etc.

  • Browse Wayspots on the map and discover new places to enhance your Niantic experience.

  • Filter PokéStop, Gym, and Powerspot Wayspots by using the appropriate buttons on the top of the page.

  • Filter between Community-Contributed Wayspots and those added by Niantic.

  • Satellite and map view of the areas you’re exploring.

  • And a convenient map centering button that will take you back to your location.

Once you’ve played around with the different features, you’ll see that when you select a specific Wayspot, you’ll see it load on your screen with more details about that Wayspot. This includes:

  • Title

  • Photo Gallery that will display the cover photo first as seen in Niantic games. If the Wayspots has multiple images then you’ll be able to view them all by clicking the arrow on either side.

  • Description

  • In Game Wayspots will also show you how they’re used in Pokémon GO, whether they are a Gym, PokéStop, or Power Spot

  • Location will give you the address and latitude/longitude information

This panel will also allow you to get directions to that Wayspot and the ability to report the Wayspot if it goes against Wayfarer criteria.

We are excited for all of the new exploration opportunities the Wayfarer Map will bring and equally excited to hear how you use it, how we can help improve it, and your overall thoughts.

Lastly, we want to express a huge Thank You to our amazing Wayfarer Ambassadors! Their invaluable help suggesting specific features and improvements, and their efforts beta testing everything before launch, were instrumental in ensuring a smooth Wayfinder experience for you all :clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3:.

Hello Wayfinders,

Some exciting Wayfarer Map improvements have just arrived! Thank you for all of the great feedback so far. Of course the biggest piece of feedback was about zoom levels on the map and we’re happy to share that we heard you and have made those improvements.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Wider View: You can now zoom out all the way to Level 4 on the map to see a sampling of Wayspots across the globe.

  • Wayspot Visibility:

    • Below Zoom Level 13: The map shows solid orange markers, which represent Wayspots that are in Pokémon GO. These markers are not clickable at these wider zoom levels.

    • At Zoom Level 13 and above: The map becomes more detailed. You will now see white markers indicating Wayspots that are not currently in Pokémon GO, alongside the orange markers. All markers become clickable, opening the Wayspot detail panel on the right of the screen.

  • What are Zoom Levels: Zoom levels indicate your virtual distance from the map’s surface. A high zoom level means you are closer to the ground, seeing a smaller area with more detail. A low zoom level means you are further away, seeing a wider, “bird’s-eye” view of the map.

  • How do I know what zoom level I’m at: You can view your current zoom level within the webpage URL. It will be located at the tail end of the URL; indicated by “z=” followed by the zoom level

  • Filtering: To use the specific filters for PokéStops, Gyms, and PowerSpots, you need to be zoomed in to Level 16 or closer.

A huge thanks to the Community and our Ambassadors for the feedback! We hope these changes make it easier for you to explore and find new Wayspots!
