Removal of Multiple Pokestops Appeal: Ft Ward Park & Museum

Four Pokestops at Ft Ward Park/Museum and Historic Site (38.8306726, -77.1025621) in Alexandria, VA disappeared in July. Can you please investigate and restore the pokestops if deemed appropriate? Thank you!

The pokestop associated with each wayspot has disappeared from the game, but their wayspots still can still be viewed as orange exclamation points in PoGo on the new pokestop nomination map.

Oakland Baptist Church and Outlying G~n Battery are both interpretive signs with information about the history of the fort and surrounding landmarks. Outlying G~n Battery corresponds to #7 on the official museum map.

Fort Ward Park has five distinct, reservable picnic areas. The museum map doesn’t include the picnic areas, but they are mentioned on the picnic area rental form and can be roughly located using the city’s interactive map.

Fort Ward was part of the Union defenses of Washington, DC during the American Civil War and has not been an active military base since 1865.

Additional info: 1) When the pokestops disappeared, at least one of the cells had a wayspot we would have expected to convert to a new PokeStop but the cell remains empty. 2) Probably unrelated, but the local community ambassador submitted this area for one of ALX PoGo’s campsites.

This happens from time to time, especially if the area has been restricted, such as from a property owner/manager request. This is done to discourage others from resubmitting them again.

hmm… i know that sponsored locations can suppress existing wayspots from showing as pokestops or gyms while they are in place, but i don’t know anything about campsites. i am going to follow this post to see if applying for a campsite is preventing them from showing. i hope staff can explain.

Highly unlikely that campsites would have anything to do with it. They’re just made up of varying numbers of sponsored stops and gyms all titled as community ambassador locations. The exact locations of each sponsored waypoint are set by folks at niantic, taking various factors into account including existing stops/gyms. So they shouldn’t cause existing stops to disappear, unless someone really messed up.
