Local (public) park pokestops entirely removed

All Pokestops at the Wahby public park location have been removed from the game. This has long been a local favorite spot to play the game. Players are considerate and polite. Not sure why it was cleared out.

Hello and welcome,

Better coords are 42.475247449284254, -82.88897059356653, for anyone else wanting to take a look.

It’s possible that whoever owns and/or manages the park may have asked for the stops/gyms to be removed. There is a link for Wayspot Removals at the top of the forum, and there are links there where removal can be requested.

Otherwise, I don’t see why Wayspots at a park would be removed. It has a few POIs, like the footbridge and gazebo, but I can’t see staff just removing those for no valid reason.

This would be much better written as 42.47503, -82.88840

This then gives coordinates that can be copy-pasted into Google Maps (and also into Ingress Intel).

This is what is showing in Ingress for that park:

Thank you both for the feedback! New to this so I just grabbed what the maps app showed. I know for next time

Even though none of the reports that have been on these threads have affected me at all, it frustrates me that it is possible for a entire public area to get cleared out. I understand that landowners can do this, but it still feels wrong.

The thing about this location is that it’s a city owned park so I don’t think anyone would be able to submit that sort of request. Or that anyone with enough authority to do so would be interested in doing so.

The Ingress Intel map is no longer syncing with Wayfarer as of May 23rd, due to the split due to the sale of Wayfarer to Scopely. We currentluy do not have an accurate map to check Wayspots as of May 23rd. More info can be found here:

City managers can submit removal requests, such as the manager of the park district. As long as they have some kind of authority over the location, they are able to put in a request.

Oh, so are you thinking that these were only coming over because they were on the Ingress map and now that they aren’t linked that the map is clearing some things out?

If you’re interested in what info is asked for, it is listed here:

Staff do follow-up with those asking for removal at places such as a city park, so extra info then just asking for removal needs to be provided.

disregard this question. I read the second post you shared

No, not at all. Ingress split from Wayfarer, and 2 maps were created on May 23rd after the split and last sync. There is 1 for Ingress and 1 for all of the games bought by Scopely, which also bought Wayfarer. Any new nominations that have been approved since May 23rd in Wayfarer are only on the Wayfarer map and will not be added to Ingress, unless separately nominated in Ingress.

Ingress is working on a new Recon website for their nominatoins and edits, but it isn’t fully up and running yet: Recon | Niantic Spatial, Inc.

I’m using the Ingress map for two reasons - to show what was there a couple of months ago, which wouldn’t be visible on a current pokemon map, and because there is no pokemon map.

This could be related to this issue:

I was reading that and, while it explains the sudden spike in removals in the last 24 hours, it doesn’t clarify what they intend to do about it nor does it really explain why stops were removed in all cases.
Further, the stops in my post were already time-limited due to the proximity to a nursing home (which makes sense imo). My worry is that there was an old request from before the time-limit went into effect that has now overwritten.

It would be beyond a shame to lose this location as there aren’t many like it in the area that have ample parking and aren’t on a main road.

Staff is letting us know though that there is a known issue with the removal process and it’s being looked into. As to what happens with these questions about the removals, we aren’t given much more info that it’s known and being worked on.

I’d keep an eye on the park to see if the Wayspots return, and if they do not, hopefully staff can give you more info.

As members, we can only speculate on what has happened.

We will have to wait and hopefully a member of staff will confirm what has happened, they will not give the specifics.

If this is part of the known issue, it only seems that you may get a limited reprieve but then they will disappear again.

The most likely is a “Request to Remove” and the only way to reverse that is if the person who has the authority requests it’s reversal.

Good luck.
