We are seeing many instances of markers like these being removed. I hope that when staff replies to this, they will elaborate on what makes these eligible or not. But they usually don’t.

I would really like some more guidance from staff, I’ve literally seen hundreds of them, and I have approved all of them, as they are official markers in Holland & Belgium for official bike trails.
I really do not like these signs, I think they’re ugly, but I do approve as to the best of my knowledge they meet the acceptance criteria.

Well we will see if staff reply on this one

@SarahBTalon
Since you are requesting restoration it would help if you could make the case for each. Tricky as we do not know why they have been removed. But the team must have had something presented to them to say they are not eligible. So you need to do more than just ask for them to be restored.
If possible state why they meet criteria - as though you were submitting eg webpages about the routes.
If you have any up to date photos that show they exist and have safe pedestrian access those are other reasons that some objects get removed.

Thanks All

Oh yes they still exist.
The stops are only a few weeks old.

It’s a local park here where I’m running the local Pogo Community here and we try to have a few more stops added.

The park is about 2,5 length and feature a long walking trail trough it.

Pictures from today

I could agree that they are better spots possible. We have nice picknick areas and even walking bridges but those don’t get approved

Looking forward to the Staff reply!

Don’t want to derail your appeal here, but maybe post some of those other rejected nominations in Nomination Support for advice on resubmitting.

We have discussed these at length in the past and have deemed them to be street infrastructure and not designated trails.

What is the difference that makes these infrastructure rather than trail markers? People are still confused.

These are not designated Trails but nodes/junction markers.

Thanks Aron

Sad to hear as the park has not a lot of stops and we do our best to make it appealing.

Also looking around in the city - these trailmarkers are pokestops everywhere.

Appreciate your feedback
We will try to see if we can add more valuable stops.

Thanks for the clarification, even though I disagree with it, they are intended only to give direction for people following the trails (see https://www.nederlandfietsland.nl/fietsroutes/)

Only if you have cycyling trail whit a name.
But since a certain year the switched the numbers on the sign. So only old cycling trails before 2000 have offical name on the sign.

If its correct this one are acceptable.

At least now it will be easier just to auto reject these with AI, AI can easily detect these signs.

Personally I will stop reviewing for a few months, as about 70% of whatever I have reviewed are trailmarkers, both for hiking and biking. Now that I know that I should not approve the biking trails, I would have to use the non-distinct button, however I’m sure that at least for a while this would hurt my rating.

This is indeed very sad to hear, because we are talking about a large percentage of waypoints in The Netherlands, Belgium, France and maybe Germany as well. We are probably talking about 10% of all waypoints in these countries which are ineligible according to Aaron. Let’s hope we can make new better waypoints.

As each country has different criteria for these I think country by country instructions would be great.

A lot of the UKs Cycle Trails are numbers, some also have a name but signs would often not include the name as it is easier to follow the numbers, should we be accepting them?

Maybe either an embassador or long time reviewer from each country could gather an image of each type of sign / marker and Niantic can make the decision on what is eligible.

Criteria is not different, formats of trail systems are.

@AMG7070 Germany should be fine, actual cycling trails are usually marked with additional signs displaying a logo, trail name or similar.

Sorry, my bad.

As criteria I meant the different types of marker, not Wayfarer Criteria…
