Should I keep trying to nominate this?

Hi! Should I keep nominating and making appeals for this? Or will the employees always decline it?

I think it is a really cool nomination and that it is fully justified. The issue is that it gets auto-rejected, and then the employee reviewing it either didnt read what I said in the appeal or decided that it didnt look comissionned to him while it is. Either way is a bit insulting tbh. I put a lot of effort in the nomination and im sure the artist put a lot of effort in their work. The employee reviewing my appeal called the art a ”rough drawing”.

Thank you in advance for your help and opinions :folded_hands:

Title : Nuage de l’AGECLG

Photo :

Supporting photos :

Description :

Appeal notes :
Hello, this nomination was auto-rejected by the system and sadly did not receive a community vote. I am appealing to clarify what may have triggered the automatic response. The nomination was for the illustrated cloud artwork, which is part of a permanent art mural that was commissioned to an art student by the AGECLG, the Collège Lionel-Groulx’s student union. The cloud is clearly distinguishable, centered in the photo and explicitly identified in the title (“Nuage”). The first supporting picture provides wider context and shows how all of the commissioned elements come together. The second supporting picture is an older one from the archives of the union, taken when the mural was being made around 10 years ago. I believe that it helps understand even better how huge the piece is and how it was truly intentional art and not a random doodle. The third picture is the union’s permanent plaque at the entrance of it’s space in the school’s hallway. That space, wich is where the cloud is, is moreover one of the greatest place in the school to be social with others, one of Niantic’s main criteria. It is open and accessible to everyone during the normal college hours, it is extremely busy every day and it is recognized as an inclusive space for the community. The union also organizes events, helps students advocate for their rights with teachers, provides access to health insurance, offers free food assistance, provides free menstrual products and offers free access to a printer and other computer equipment. All that at the location that this Wayspot would be at. In a school with a community of over 7k students in a town of only 26k people, a Wayspot here is absolutely a must-have! Thank you for taking the time to review this appeal.

Niantic’s note :
Thanks for the appeal, Wayfinder! The nomination in question seems to be one of the temporarily drawn or non-commissioned rough drawing, which does not meet the Wayfarer nomination criteria bar for approval. We recommend you review the Wayspot nomination criteria clarification forum discussion library before submitting your next Wayspot contribution.

Good day and welcome to the forum!

Please also provide the supporting text and photo.

IMO there are certain details that may be improved, may need clarification, or may hinder this object’s eligibility:

  • The main photo and title focuses on one part of the object rather than the whole.
  • The object seems to be placed on a wall at a personal workspace based on its current state. While the office itself may be publicly accessible, we are not certain whether the personal workspace is deemed as an allowable location.
  • The description talks more of the college rather than the object itself. If submitting for the object, keep the object as the subject of the text. The object submitted must stand on its own regarding eligibility, other possibly eligible candidates may be submitted on their own.
  • Artist credit and information backing the commission of the object(s) are not explained from the submission (maybe it is in the supporting text?).
  • While the union is the one organizing social events, the venue for these events may be the eligible candidates. An office space providing service is indeed important with its relevance to real life QoL service & advocacy. However, the relevance to being a great place for socialization, exploration, and/or exercise is indirect.

Its possible that the student union itself would be the easier nomination. If it has a cafe, social space, outdoor and/or indoor group seating, or storage for exercise those could all be considered

I think the desk being in the photo is going to be distracting, even though it does not mean its ineligible, it just detracts from a good picture of the art. So I think thats part of the reason this art is proving difficult

What is the plaque you mentioned? Wayfarer usually loves a plaque

hello, thanks for the response. i did provide the supporting photos. are they not visible? for the supporting text, it was very similar to the appeal notes so thats why i did not include it.

ill take note of the rest that you mentionned, but this office space is also the main hangout place that we have. it is the social spot itself, the space is basically everything all at once. the only thing i could maybe submit other than this is the boring plaque thats in the supporting photos.

hi, thanks for the response. i dont know if « plaque » is the right word, i meant the thing that is the current third supporting photo.

we unfortunately dont have a café or anything like that and this space that the desk and the mural is in is the social space itself, there are also couches on the opposite side of the space.

Oh I see, no that’s not what I’d call a plaque then :+1:

I would see if you can take pictures that include the sofas and see if you can frame the whole thing as a social and study space. Mention the mural, but not focus on that, but on tje purpose of the space

One of them has not loaded.

I have no concern about the office itself. It’s just that the object is situated in what looks like one of the workspace.

The plaque can function as the placemarker for the office IMO.

What you’ll need to do IMO is show how the space is used socially. I suggest specifying the activities people do when they hang out for leisure.

I wanted to add this previous discussion for context reasons:

why do we need this context ?

after the feedback that i got on there i figured that i didnt have a chance with the mural of the anime girl since its more collaborative and looks less professionnal. so i applied all the suggestions that i received for this cloud submission instead.

im about to give up though, i feel pretty defeated. it feels like theres just no way we get a wayspot here even if it is the best social spot there is.

Why not nominate the association?

the issue then becomes the picture because we dont have a store front type of facade that stands out very much.

i did try to submit this before over one of our doors and it got auto-rejected too :

i didnt try to appeal that one though, so maybe thats an idea.
