OK, I took the risk and submitted my final nomination. This was successful and had no knock-on effects for the use of the map as far as I can see.
Hi, I love this feature, the map is super responsive and I especially enjoy the wayspot image gallery. Here’s some thoughts on improvements, though I do want to preface by saying this map is already fantastic for improving Wayfarer QoL.
- I agree with what everyone’s saying about the zoom level, having broader context for wayspots helps with spotting patterns and potentially unexplored areas.
- The street names and location markers in Default view are very helpful, I would also like the option to see these in Satellite view too.
- Similarly it can be hard to judge distance in Default view, it would be nice to have some way to see the current zoom level, maybe a real distance scale like in Google Maps:

- The location info panel always blocks the zoom / center map buttons, and on smaller displays even the top buttons.
- By using keyboard navigation (tab), the location info panel can open without having actually selected a wayspot. This broken panel pushes the map to the left, and can’t be closed by selecting/clicking X:
- Some of the UI elements are slightly counterintuitive to me as a new user. The in game / not in game legend is in the same style box as buttons, and the icons look similar to radio check marks, so I tried clicking them:

To see only all wayspots active in-game, currently I have to click three buttons: Pokestop, Gym, Power Spot. Also, there is currently no way to see only inactive wayspots, as deselecting all buttons causes everything to display, rather than nothing which is what I’d expect from deselecting every button. I feel this could be solved by having the map legend become buttons, maybe with repositioning / redesign so it all fits.
This reply earlier also seems to have made the same error I did clicking the map key:
Just seeing the announcement post about this made my day, huge thanks to everyone who helped make the map happen! Certainly in need of some further additions & adjustments, but a good start so far. So with that said, here’s what I’m most hoping to see with the map next, in order of priority:
-
Adjustments for the zoom level issue. Like a lot of other people have said, you have to zoom in too much to see anything.
-
Save the contributed by visual setting per user. That is, if I select view waypoints from all sources, the map should remember that choice without me having to re-select it every time I pull it up.
-
Add sponsored locations & community ambassador campsite waypoints to the map. This one is pretty self explanatory.
-
Make different types of waypoints more distinct on the map for easier identification at a glance. Ideally, something like pokestops in blue, sponsored locations in green, gyms in yellow, power spots in red (maybe darker red for currently inactive ones), unused in white. Also worth specifically pointing out that it’d be nice to see which imported & unused locations are capable of being power spots, and which ones aren’t. Right now it seems that only active power spots are labeled as such.
-
In a similar vein as the previous point, I’m also hoping for the map to reference Niantic’s other games & how waypoints are used in those. To avoid conflicts but still allow for waypoints to be given more distinct markings than “In game” vs “Not in game,” I suggest adding a layer option to choose which game to prioritize information for. Clicking on a specific waypoint could then provide info for all games, with the prioritized game listed first.
-
I know we’re probably not going to get this one, but I’m going to ask anyway - Please add S2 cells to the map. Most, if not all, of the frequent wayfarer contributors already know how the inclusion rules work. Niantic might as well just make it officially public knowledge at this point. We all know it’s pretty much an open “secret”.
-
Getting into more long term wishes here. Would love to see more sorting options to display waypoints, such as: Only waypoints you’ve submitted, only waypoints you’ve submitted or edited, only waypoints you’ve interacted with in game, only waypoints used in game (including inactive power spots but excluding waypoints that aren’t used for anything,) and maybe one for only waypoints added within the past 1-2 months. I’d also like to eventually see an option to view removed waypoints.
-
Last one is similar to the previous one but more specific. As a long term goal, I’d be thrilled if the map could eventually have the option to display gym badges that you’ve earned. That is, hide all waypoints except ones where the user has obtained a gym badge, but include removed gyms too, and also show information on the badge (number of battle wins, time defended, what level the badge is, etc.) Asking because the ingame gym badge map is…primitive at best. Plus, since it’s capped at how many badges it will show you at once, and removed gyms can disappear forever with no way to see them again, it’d be a dream come true to finally have a way to view all of them at once with no risk of them disappearing because of removed waypoints. Much better alternative than keeping an excel spreadsheet of every gym badge you’ve ever obtained.
Oh, one final note regarding the report option - Useful to have, but I hope ya’ll either consider applying some kind of distance limit to it or keep a very close eye out for people abusing the system with it. There’s always going to be some waypoints that are in a grey zone as far as eligibility goes, and I’m concerned bad actors could exploit that to get some removed for personal reasons, or just to mess with people. Would hate to see communities get sabotaged like that.
All that aside, the map is still a very welcomed feature and at least in my opinion - the single best addition to wayfarer so far! So once again, a huge THANK YOU
to all who helped make this happen.
This would be so helpful. And adding S2 cells could just be a “requested feature” instead of an official acknowledgement of their use if not doing so is going to continue to be policy, maybe? We know the overlay can be added, because @Tntnnbltn has made a tool that does that, and I hate that only some people have access to it. But saying, “Okay, y’all have figured it out,” does seem to be logical at this point.
I am not able to find wayfarer discussion discord, google did not find it ![]()
try searching google for “wayfarer tools”
the link to the Wayfarer Discussion Discord will be available there. not these specific tools.
thanks page found
I am very concerned about this, and I haven’t come across something yet to check. How do Wayspots that aren’t yet but will be Pokestops or gyms after sync look on this map? Is this going to be as confusing as the exclamation points that say “Wayspots used in other Niantic games” in the nomination map screen is for users?
Pokémon Go only on the map
The map is about places so information about raids etc would not be appropriate.
Thank you everyone for your feedback and questions. We are continuously monitoring this thread and sharing the feedback with the team ![]()
Random, less important thought. I suggest bringing back the “featured wayspot” showcase landing page and making the map a separate tab you have to tap/click into. I kinda like the “featured wayspot” as a landing page, getting to see recently-accepted wayspots from my local area. For me, it’s also been a means of connecting with local community contributors. I think it’s also potentially a more welcoming, less intimidating landing page for new Wayfarers than the map. Just a small thought.
(But to be sure, I think the map is amazing, and I’m excited to see it grow and improve as new features continue to roll out!!)
its a bit like trying do drive and you dont have keys for the car.
I like that! Or linking to their location on the map when you tap on them, so you can see where they are and explore the area. Regardless of how it’s done, I like the idea of connecting the featured wayspots with the map.
Looks very promising. Was happy to see the zoom issue has been noted.
- Could Gyms get a bit different visual indicator than normal PokeStops? At least when both are selected.
- Could we get some hints on what / where the showcases are?
- What is Power Stop situation? Are these only those active in-game atm?
Oh, that would be nice! It’s possible if the showcase flag is a wayfarer attribute, but harder if it is solely a Pogo attribute.
Can you clarify if you are trying to review/submit via the map page? The map page is view only.
Separate pages for reviewing and web-submitting are available on the side panel. Reviewing remains to be on a randomized queue and submission based on your current location.
