Anyone else seeing more E II R postboxes come through on review? Wondering if the ML was filtering them out, would be nice if it’s learned from the rejections that have been made previously.
Emily seems to be unwell again
Hence yes more postboxes are reaching the community.
I’m aware and understand that’s why they’re coming up, I was pondering whether the ML system had been rejecting E II R postboxes (and not rejecting the other cyphers) before it crashed.
You know I’m not a fan of personifying the ML system, so for me, it’s crashed or broken. A person is unwell, not a system.
But that’s just personal preference.
Ah I see what you are wondering about.
Yes it would be nice if it was somehow distinguishing but I don’t think there is any specific evidence around ERII specifically being rejected - at least not seen any.
By this point in time I think l most submittable non-ERII have already been submitted in urban areas I sometimes see them in small villages. So it could just be a numbers game?
I have heard that the ML rejects most postboxes regardless of cypher. Presumably it can’t tell the difference and the overwhelming global data would tell it to reject postboxes anyway.
Yeah I agree that there’s not many non-EIIR left. I was surprised to get an unsubmitted (but hopefully approved by now) Edward postbox the other week.
I guess it depends if people are submitting ones that won’t appear in Pokémon GO, now that Ingress is separate.
Who do I talk to, to get this thread fed to the ML?
It’s in Camborne, Cambridgeshire and yes it’s a Wayspot but doesn’t appear in PoGo because there’s another wayspot in the cell.
At least it’s a nice postcard for Pikmin Bloom?
Well these things are always worth adding IMO ![]()
Huh, weird. So with ml being a bit ….. iffy, I decided to submit the 2 postboxes that can get i to pogo that keep being rejected by her. Submitted one 32 hours ago, its still waiting in queue, so I was like, OK, thats past her rejection time, I’ll try to submit the other. Submitted it and it was instantly rejected, I mean I didnt even get the email and it’s rejected
So it will be a race to see who gets the first one for Pogo?
On it!
By my home town in London (which I visit a lot) there are a lot of postboxes. What I mean by this is that there are Quite A Lot of duplicates which have somehow gone through the wayfarer system. Can we put some consideration into this? Almost half of the nominations I review are postboxes.
This will probably be moved to this topic: UK Postboxes Topic
There you can chat with folks who understand them =)
Duplicate postboxes is not anything I have come across either in person or while reviewing. I very occasionally will see a submission for a postbox that is already in the system, but this is no more common than for any other type of submission.
Are you finding this across a very wide area or a small local area?
Are you able to post some examples - if you didn’t take details, please do so the next time you come across this so that you can post the details.
I’m wondering what you are considering to be duplicates.
If you are saying that the same postbox is being nominated several times then these should be rejected as duplicates.
If you are saying that all postboxes are the same so they are duplicates of each other there is an exemption for “some” postboxes in the UK.
As UK postboxes usually carry the cypher of the reigning monarch at the time it was installed the pre Elizabeth II (ERII) boxes do meet criteria for explore.
Unfortunately, due to the “Machine Learning” currently not working we are seeing a lot of nominations that don’t meet criteria getting through to Review including plenty of ERII boxes.
Hello
I have merged this into the main U.K. postboxes topic.
Not just single Family. Even private blocks have their own rules as to what can happen around them. And maybe subject to legal regulations. What is acceptable in the US is not necessarily acceptable in other countries.
Climbing all over Niantic say this acceptable or not acceptable is not wise without the context of the Niantic TandCs also being understood. Oh its in the terms and conditions of use. Who reads those anyway ![]()
Yup the system has terms and conditions that specifically address the local laws regulations etc of the location a nomination is made from amongst many other nuances.
I love this if it exists as a valid postbox and not an ornament
If it exists in street view but not ten years ago. I would suspect someone has installed it on their property. You can buy your own postbox and they can come with a collection card.. Irish Green Cast Iron Post Box – Forge & Foundry Limited
I love the history of post boxes as they tell so many stories of changing times of culture to technology to even geography.
What is really cool is for the UK the original Post Box colour was GREEN
so kinda more like the early early colour.
The interweb is full of stuff on them ![]()
Some of the original post boxs in Ireland also get repainted to commerate stuff. Like one painted gold for Ireland winning the Grand Slam (Rugby Union). Which happens in the UK too. And the UK has a thriving market for replica post boxes. They tend to be painted black though.
Thank you for sharing!!
