UK Postboxes Topic

Have Niantic mentioned the various types apart from K6 and above are ineligible unless repurposed?

The only K3 boxes left from the 11,000 installed are this one at London Zoo, not on the map.

This one in Rhynd near Perth. It looks like it’s in the old post office but now on private property.

I don’t think they ruled specifically but certainly the rarer ones - love the K3 - are in with a shout. Am I recalling correctly that some of those are listed.

What sort of U.K. nerd have I become even knowing the details of phone boxes and postboxes - it’s been educational

K1 1912 about 12 left.

K2 1926, George Gilbert Scott design, 224 left. Original red iconic box.

K3 1929 two left and a couple in Portugal.

K4 1930 5 left there was only originally 50.

K5 1933 only a few made with none left.

K6 1936 11,700 left.

K7 never made production two left.

K8 1965 54 left

Kx-100 40,000 left

I think everything before K6 is listed then it’s individual listings.

I’ve had a fair few postboxes with the wrong monarch or a non-unique title pop up on Ingress COMMS today so now I’m at this.

I did a few photo edits like this.

It looks pretty Sh1T as the main image unfortunately. I’m not doing anymore

Has anybody had success in appealling rejected nominations for postboxes and if so, is there anything you would recommend? I have a couple of GR and GviR that were rejected and I’d rather appeal them than resubmit (some are in locations I can’t easily return to). I always give a description including the monarch’s reign etc, for example:

Let me know if there’s anything you would recommend on an appeal!

I’d recommend resubmitting rather than Appealing.

The Niantic Appeal reviewers reject postbox nominations as it’s a very niche UK thing which they don’t quite get.

So my advice is don’t waste an Appeal.

Agreed with this advice. If you can manage to get them in front of UK reviewers, they’ll generally get accepted. Appeal reviewers and Emily don’t tend to like them though. The most recent two that I’ve submitted (Edward VII and George V) have been accepted.

I tend to take the Approach that anything that isnt EIIR i would approve under hystorical rasonal. although would like other thoughs on this.

I will always submit postboxes (and stinkpipes) i come across altough im forgot to ask at Gofest about this topic as it so frequently comes up in dicussions to the point our local group has pre built decriptions of how to write them up when found.

I had a Queen Lizzie accepted a few months ago. Hehe :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: didn’t expect it lol

Last one id did is now in voting although after a wave of Auto Rejects iv lost the will to submit Postboxs unless its in a pritty lackluster area for POIs and the box fits the criteria of not being an ERII box

out of intrest whats your views on any King Carly boy boxes that appear?

The very first one will get a news story so will be easily provable and a point of interest.

Any others I would reject

Send a letter. Socialise :joy: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

First one will possibly be unveiled by him and have a plaque.

If he even does issue any. See more being removed than installed.

You submitted a place where people receive mail addressed to them as individuals.
The Brits are talking about places where anyone can drop outgoing mail.

They are completely different. Personal incoming mail is not for public exploration.

Mk museum has a fantastic telecommunication museum . Hoping this get approved by appeal.

I don’t know if “Completely Different” is apt. Yes there is a difference between mailbox that is “Outgoing only” and one that is “Ingoing/Outgoing” but I don’t think I can buy the word “Completely” IMO.

Post Boxes for “Outgoing Mail” aren’t accepted anywhere else AFAIK.

And that’s okay, as wayfarer allows regional distinctions. My point was I don’t think any other place in the world will accept mailboxes outside of post offices.
