Hello everyone. Early last month, our city had its first Pride Crosswalk painted in the heart of downtown. I thought it would be an excellent PokeStop for Pokemon GO. It’s great representation for diversity in our community and is surrounded by a mall, parks, local entertainment and restaurants. I submitted a nomination last week and I was surprised that it was denied. The appeal was denied this morning as well.
Would anyone be able to help me understand the decision and any guidance with nominating stops moving forward? Thank you for reviewing and letting me know your thoughts!
The first was denied for unsafe access. I didn’t understand and tried to appeal explaining how both ends have wide & large sidewalks. I happened to not capture the side I was standing on in both photos.
Crosswalks have been a topic of debate for years. By definition, they are a safe place for pedestrians to cross, but only if the light is right. I don’t think a crosswalk is a safe place to be playing a phone game and not paying attention to the signals, or to vehicles with drivers who may not be paying proper attention, either. The only pavement paintings I accept are those that are restricted to vehicular traffic by bollards, gates, etc.
I would love to see a plaque or information board about this crosswalk in game though.
Just as an fyi for the future, I know the prompt asks why this would be a good pokestop, but you should avoid any specific game reference, even in the supporting. Just give further evidence of how your nomination meets criteria as a great place of exercise, exploration, or being social, and any proof of statements or existence you might need to point out to reviewers.
Thank you for the welcome and reply! I appreciate it and your advice for when I submit in the future. I understand where you’re coming from. Unfortunately, I don’t recall there being a plaque. I noticed it in person and read about it further online. I will keep a look out for any signs put up for it!
This would probably have been fine if it went up onto the pavements as well and overlapped rather than beingjust the road thats painted. I’m pretty sure it was rejected due to being in the road, even though its a crosswalk and you might think its different than general road it wouldn’t be treated any differently
I think Niantic want us to be able to stand right at the item safely and touch it. With this one, you’d be reaching into the road to touch it, even if you’re stood on the pavement. Does that make sense?
