- Description of the issue | I stumbled upon a bug while trying to upload pictures taken with professional cameras. I’ve never had any issues uploading pictures and submitting Wayspots with camera photos before, but since this week, I’ve encountered a problem where pictures won’t upload and the photo/Wayspot submission is automatically rejected because the upload process fails. After getting some feedback on the Wayfarer Discord, and being told that I should try deleting the EXIF file (metadata) of the pictures, I gave it a try, and it actually worked. I’m now able to submit any photos using this technique. The question is, could this issue be fixed? It used to work fine without any problems before this recent challenge. At first, I thought it might be because one camera exports different kinds of EXIF data, but now every camera I use has this issue. it would save a lot of time if i was able to upload picture like it used to be because deleting exif data is consuming time and it adds up.

Rejection with the original EXIF file (JPG) looks like this. You can see that the submitted picture does not appear:
Hey,
This happens when the file size is too big for it to be processed. I’ll share your feedback with the team.
Thanks,
Thanks for the quick response, I appreciate that. Looking forward to hearing back from the team!
What’s confusing is that it worked perfectly fine just two weeks ago. When I remove the EXIF data from the photos, the file size stays nearly the same, but I’m able to upload them without any issues. Could it be that the EXIF file (metadata) of the photo contains too much information? The file sizes aren’t actually that large compared to the photos my phone takes.
I don’t want to spam my contribution site or waste my photo limits trying to figure out what’s causing the issue. At least I’ve found a temporary fix for now.
What is considered too big of a file size?
I found the solution! The issue was caused by the author/copyright section in the EXIF file, which can be configured in the camera menu. I had done a software update just before this problem started occurring, and I completely forgot that this might be the cause. Before the update, the copyright section was not activated, but now it is. I just tried uploading a picture with this fix, and it worked!
