Totally not submitting everything i can just now in the hopes they do get fast track checked so they can get into both games befire the split
NIANTIC: How about a one-time Contribution medal (badge) for players in both games?
Maybe 3: for accepted photos, text edits, and nominations? It would be really nice if our contributions were acknowledged.
Niantic could easily prioritize submissions made before the announcement. Or at least: made in 2024.
I have a dozen text edits In Voting from the Nashville anomaly December 14-15, 2024. It feels like a betrayal that they could be summarily dismissed from the game I was playing and submitted from.
Just to clarify that there are 2 Niantics now: Niantic Spatial, which is the new company, and Niantic Games, which is owned by Scopely. You may want to refer to them as Spatial and Scopely, since both have Niantic products.
Think of it like this:
- Ingress/Lightship map: Spatial
- PoGo/Wayfarer interface: Scopely
Not until the deal closes there isnāt.
But there has already been some separating, i.e. employees let go from Spatial, Ingress losing Campfire/Niantic ID next month, and it also can be confusing.
Perhaps a banner will do, 6 missions, Ingress and Scaniverse going one way, Pokemon, Monster Hunter, and Harry Potter going the other way, and Wayfarer is kinda going too, but TintinoFarer is going back?
The Harry Potter game hasnāt existed in quite some timeā¦
Right, should have mentioned Pikmin instead
Getting ready for a seperation is 1 thing, but claiming it already happened is not true.
Reminder to everyone that unless thereās a linked source, any claims made in here are speculation and should not be taken as fact.
Just trying to help with any confusion, as some of us are, including myself.
For example,
āNiantic Special announced job cutsā - itās a fact.
https://nianticlabs.com/news/niantic-spatial-evolve
Ingress announced the next steps - fact.
https://ingress.com/en/news/getting-ready-for-niantic-spatial
āIngress will have a portal submission system similar to Wayfarer, with nominations and votingā - speculation.
I like the optimism, by the way but even āonceā might be a stretch. Iād need to see how the nomination process will actually work. For example, will players really want to submit and review in two separate systems? Or will it rely on AI and internal reviewers from the start? Or maybe players will just fill out a google form, drop coordinates, and upload a screenshot of an acceptance email from pokĆ©mon wayfarer?
Iām also curious about the long-term plans. Will the new startup use portals in other projects or āfuture gamesā? What would truly motivate people is if the new startup maintained an open database of real points of interest - no sponsored memorial benches, no private little libraries - and provided open maps / let people use it in their projects. Which was impossible before, when Niantic needed to separate pokemon from competitors and be in position to sell; but now who knows. (This is groundless speculation).
Maybe nominations and edits from one map will automatically feed to the other.
We really donāt know, and canāt assume they wonāt.
we can assume they wonāt, literally what Tintino said in this post
Oops! Hard to keep it all straight, who said what.
Even if you were correct here, that from the point of the sale being completed there is a legal grey area/loophole around data players have submitted to Wayfarer, this seems an entirely moot point.
At most players would have the ability to request a handful of POI submissions they sent in during the intervening time are deleted from the system. And even then the player can never own the POI, they only own the photo, and perhaps the description. The title is almost always factual, and often the description is as well, it would hard for a player to claim substantial creative input. So it could well be the case the only thing the player could demand is deleted is the photo.
I understand that diving into legal implications and whatnot can be interesting, so Iām not saying you shouldnāt do that. But its worth also taking a step back and thinking āeven if Iām right, and have spotted something the many lawyers involved in a $3.5bn deal have missed, what are the actual implications for me/the game?ā

Theres still a few waypoints from when people were submitting in the wayfarer app (before they told us to stop, before anyone gets their knickers in a twist) that got accepted but never appeared in ingress of pokemon (dunno about other games) despite meeting inclusion rules (nothing within 20m, cell empty). Befire the split, can we hive the teams a kick up the backside to sort these ghost pois out? @NianticTintino
