Wayfarer Roadmap 2025/2026 - Discussion

The disparity is not created by the leaderboard, the disparity is already there, the leaderboard will just reveal it. The rural region player will be able to compare his wayspot output with the output of player from neighboring city region.

We already know what’s going to be in the leaderboard, they’re going to email us that information this week. It’s going to show similar information.

Of course they’re going to show accepted wayspots per person, then per region, then globally. That’s the minimum. Surely you’re not suggesting that the wayspot leaderboard will somehow not show wayspot contribution, what will they be leaders of? How many km they walked?

It literally does not matter if it represents the “wider” wayfarer community. The damage with be created by two types of people:

A. Someone who wants to show off

B. Someone who wants to compare

Person B of rural region will see person A in the next door urban region. He will see the disparity.

Honestly this roadmap disappointing, it caters to just a small group of people, the people who already like wayfarer and just wayfarer to wayfarer. A Map, more appeals, longer range, more AI? These are just QoL features. They will make the people already happy with wayfarer even happier.

As someone who tries to advocate for more inclusion and wants the disenfranchised wayfarers to return or the skeptical players to at least try submitting something, this roadmap brings nothing.

“Oh hey guy who got 15 rejections try submitting something again, they have this new road ma-“

“N-no they didn’t c-change the criteria, but you have more appe-“

“Oh no they didn’t clarify the criteria either..but they have a leaderboa- hey where are you going??!”

Very true. A leaderboard doesn’t interest me, as I’m not a competitive person, but there are some out there that will enjoy this feature.

Also, I believe that it’s optional, since it says it’s something we can opt into:

You dont even know what’s in it now.

That’s a huge assumption.

And hopefully the people unhappy with Wayfarer happy too.

….p, you can now use it to help find eligible things and not submit your duplicates you didn’t know of”

…also you can use them to get a second opinion on the things that maybe got wrongly rejected by reviewers or AI”

… I forgot to tell you about the announced AMA and the plan for growth”

Here’s the thing. The only people who will get upset are those who choose to be upset. You can choose to ignore it, or you can choose to use the information on how to improve on your ability to submit better nominations.

My only issue, which may be misguided, is the leaderboard may be up for some abuse. I am sure there will be some mechanism to prevent this.

Where did you get the information about what is going to be on the map?

its a Wayfarer map meant to show Waypoints is it not? If not, a lot of people here are going to be very upset.

I don’t know, that’s why I’m asking where you got that information. Surely you didn’t just make an assumption

Its an assumption, but an expected assumption.

The ambassador admonishes me for making an assumption, despite themselves making an assumption. The problem is that I didn’t make the ambassador’s preferred type of assumption. I understand :slightly_smiling_face:

I simply called it for what it is, a “huge assumption”… vs your comparison of what should be no questions asked the purpose of a “Wayfarer map”

Don’t stop. I need the entertainment. :eyes:

To be fair, if you asked 100 users of Wayfarer what would be on a Wayfarer map, an overwhelming majority (if not all) of them would say Wayspots.

I will be one of those not opting in to a leader board, it’s not my cup of tea or coffee even.

I can’t see me spending anytime looking at it. ( seriously I have better things to do) being on here is one of those :joy:
I will be surprised if I can tell where an individual lives from any kind of leaderboard. I doubt it will give someone’s address.

Will it be focussed on submitting? :woman_shrugging: It may be about that other wayfarer activity reviewing. As far as I am aware it is not so vital where you live when reviewing If you choose a bonus location wisely you can get a good flow of reviews whether you live in central London or Benbecula.
So maybe let’s wait until we see what sort of metrics they decide upon?

With regard to disenfranchised wayfinders you mention, happy to hear about ideas of what you think this covers and the problems.

Yes you simply called out my use of assumption, while you yourself made assumptions.

“Imagine having additional control over your contributions and smarter and more accurate auto-decision systems. We are significantly improving the automated review with new technologies.“

I’m way more excited about this than I am about the Map (wich is really awesome!)

Improved EMILY will be a welcome thing, regarding the fact that my Hike Trail submissions are about 50% Hit and Miss on Community Review, but over 90% on “our Team” decisions, and EMILY has taken quite a lot of them in the last weeks, so I assume she’s well trained to handle them.

5 posts were split to a new topic: Would changes to criteria be useful

Yes and if you asked 100 wayfarers what you would think would be on a wayfarer leaderboard they would say some things similar to:

This was just too huge for some.

Thank you so much @TrungLatias! I made sure to share this with the whole team

Agree. I think most could care less about a leaderboard. Just look at how many have posted about their excitement for a map finally coming versus how many have posted about the leaderboard.

what’s wrong with doing nice things for the people who like Wayfarer?
