Hi everyone, My community recently had a nomination accepted and because it borders a S2 cell it appears to have gone into the “wrong” cell. It is now a powerspot rather than a PokéStop. I have two questions:
Is it possible for Niantic to edit or adjust the placement so that it appears in Pokémon GO as a pokestop, or is it permanently a powerspot? If not, what are the best practices to prevent this from happening again? I’d like to avoid submitting things that end up hidden due to cell placement.
Welcome to the forums. This is something I have posted before that might help here.
When objects have a very specific location, such as fitness equipment, picnic shelters, then you don’t have much choice where to put the pin, so the cells (re proximity rules for Pogo) don’t really matter. if it doesn’t become a pokestop, it may become a powerstop.
When objects have a choice of location, such as a playground set, then knowing the cells can make a difference if you want a pokestop rather than a powerstop (or the other way round!), as you can choose where to put the pin when nominatingand there is a legitimate choice of positions.
What you can’t do is try to move things after they are accepted in order to make them appear as a pokestop, if they are already in a good location and you are just moving them to a just-as-good location. People do that when they know about the cells and the proximity rules and are trying to tweak the gameboard.
If an existing game location is removed or the criteria changes, the nomination may appear within Pokémon GO at a later time.
Always submit the Wayspots at their correct location/natural point of interest. Trying to manipulate the gameboard is considered abuse and may have repercussions. Refer to this article for more information:
