Wayspot in wrong location:

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: 99 Ranch Market Logo
  • Location (lat/lon): 37.252391,-121.864575
  • City: San José, CA
  • Country: US
  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any):

This wayspot is 11.4m from the correct location. It should be at 37.252475,-121.864650.

I have been trying for months to get this corrected, with multiple appeals. I hope this time I can provide enough information to support this effort.

This is inside a mall. It is a wide concourse, and the wayspot for the logo is on the wrong side.

A reference map:

The UFC Fit Oakridge reference point is at 37.25294,-121.865744 (also a wayspot). Being a large place, in addition to that wayspot, which is outside the mall, there is also a logo inside the mall, sort of towards the Living Spaces shown above.

Zooming in a bit, we see the logo for UFC Fit for inside the mall:

A photo of the concourse, facing UFC Fit, showing the logo on the right, which would place it where the green checkmark is on my map (Suggested location):

The map views are from a GMaps My Maps at 99 Ranch Market Logo fix - Google My Maps (Private/Incognito browsing friendly link).

Have you tried help chat, since it’s over 10 m?

As @DTrain2002 says help chat is the place for location edits of that sort of distance, so please try that.

I’m pretty sure that I’ve tried that approach as well. Hard to remember as, to the best of my knowledge, no way to search for those.

But, you know, now that you bring it up, I wonder if my distance calculation was off. After all, I was able to submit it with Ingress which has a 20m limit. I had just drew a line on the map, so I wonder if I messed that up.

Yup. PEBCAK.

spatialite> select format('=%.3fm', st_distance(st_point(-121.864575,37.252391),st_point(-121.864650,37.252475),0));
=11.459m

A line on a map isn’t going to be enough for something that’s indoors. I think the photos will help, and those can be uploaded in help chat. They may also need something that is geotagged in order to move it, such as a geotagged photo or a splat from Scaniverse.

Edit appeals haven’t been handled in the forums for several months now, almost a year.

Have you tried getting a good geotagged photo inside a faraday cage of a mall? The concourse image did have such coords in it when I uploaded it. A shame Discourse strips it out without an option not to. https://photos.app.goo.gl/Kby8g1Q1qzZCwDCz6

Anyway, as noted, I am pretty sure I have used help chat for this move as well. So yeah, this is a “Hail, Mary” attempt.

Frankly things like this is hard to prove. Is there good reason why you want to move it?

Ummm… it is in the wrong location?

11m difference doesnt make much change. I am more worried that the ranch market got removed because its considered generic business. Its like trying to get portal closer only to lose it in the end.

In the past, I did ask, and got, all generic “99 Ranch Market” wayspots removed.

This one stuck around because it was focused on the logo.

But, if putting it in the correct location causes it to be removed, fine. But being in the wrong location, on the wrong wall of the mall, is definitely incorrect.

And since businesses and such change all the time in the mall, it is possible that the current, in correct location, might block some future wayspot from becoming visible in the game. (Last time I was there, the wall across from 99 Ranch Market was blocked off and under construction, but looking at GMaps, there may be new businesses there. Don’t know anything about them.)

Accuracy is of the upmost importance when it come to Wayspots on the map, even if off by a few meters.

I’ve seen some get Wayspots for logos for genetic businesses removed here. While we don’t have them where I live, I have heard oh 99 Ranch Market. It’s a chain of grocery stores, specializing in Asian foods and goods. The logo is even on their website.

I was surprised that this wasn’t removed in the abuse report I did in August, 2024.

From that:

I did not look for any others. Some may be valid, like the one near me, where the focus is on the big logo rather than the generic store: “99 Ranch Market Logo”: 37.252391,-121.864575 (though, considering I’ve been trying to get that moved to the right spot for months, I wouldn’t exactly feel bad if it disappeared as well.)

IMO, it should be removed. It’s just a metal cutout of the 99 Ranch logo, not anything artistic. All 99 Ranch stores use this logo, so it’s not unique art, and that’s most likely how whoever submitted this tried to pass it off as.

I agree.

But I couldn’t figure out to argue that particular bit, expecting the generic “does not meet our criteria for removal at this time.”

Business logos typically get rejected and need to be appealed for removal here. What’s important is showing that it is a business logo, and provide some examples of it being used as such, like a website or photos of other locations.

Here’s an example of a business logo that had a Wayspot; the logo is for Blaze Pizza, which is a pizza chain.

 I have a whole new class of things to remove!

Just know it isn’t always guaranteed that they will be removed for being business logos, but it has happened, so it’s worth a try.
