Wayspot name change appeal denied

Hello and welcome to the forum, @robopwner

Wayfarer wants to make sure that each accepted location meets at least one of the eligibility criteria:

  • A Great place to be Social with others
  • A Great place to Exercise
  • A Great place to Explore

That is why we are not encouraged to repurpose a change over in businesses. The new restaurant needs to meet eligibility on its own merits.

So in this case you’ll need to submit the new restaurant and request a removal for the old one. I know the extra steps can be annoying, but it is to help keep the map clean.

Standard procedure is to report removal and resubmit. But beware. If said wayspot is Gym will do recalculation but showcase is gone for goods.

Hi @robopwner
I’ve moved your topic to General Discussion because the category Wayspot Appeals is for appealing rejected removal requests or to ask for reinstating removed wayspots.

Welcome to the forum :hugs:

That does not jibe with my experience. I submitted a title change when Sky Zone bought out Defy. They are essentially the same business under a new name. It was approved no problem. And then recently, The Corner Carhop in Walled Lake, MI changed to Big Dip Burgers, and that name change (with photo) was denied. Appeal was denied. The edit appeal process on here seems to be broken (it only seems to allow for appeal of location change). Why make this so difficult for those of us just trying to casually make sure the map is accurate?

We have asked for the process to be made simpler to update the map. But people have had warnings for trying to repurpose a Wayspot when it has changed. You have to think about what the Wayspot is that was approved rather than what is where the Wayspot is now. The only exceptions seem to be when the approved point of interest has changed its name, as in same owners. Or when a wall has been repainted with a new mural. It is confusing to me, too.
