Wayspot Removal

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

Since cemeteries are spaces intended for reflection, mourning, and private remembrance, they may not be appropriate for inclusion in platforms that encourage casual exploration, social interaction, or gaming. By keeping this location as a Wayspot, it could unintentionally commercialize or trivialize a space that is meant for quiet and respectful visits. Some people might feel that the presence of such locations on a public platform detracts from the reverence that these sites deserve.

Furthermore, the inclusion of cemeteries as Wayspots could lead to disruptions or inappropriate behavior by users who may not understand the solemnity of these spaces. Visitors may start to treat the site as just another stop for gameplay or achievement hunting, which can disturb those who come to mourn or reflect.

Thus, removing this Wayspot could help maintain the integrity of sacred spaces and ensure they remain respectful places for those who seek peace and reflection.

As a general rule, wayspots in cemeteries can be acceptable. Sometimes they aren’t. There is not and should not be a blanket rule against wayspots in cemeteries.

One near to me has lots of signs encouraging visitors to explore it, as it is an old cemetery with lots of interesting features.

Wayspots in active areas of cemeteries, where burials are still taking place and family members are still coming to grief, tend to be a problem.

Wayspots in inactive areas of cemeteries, where no burials are taking place and the graves are all decades old, tend not to be a problem.

I agree that this appears to be a sensitive location from your photo, not a place to socialize, which is what normally makes a shelter like this eligible. I would never submit, approve, or visit this in game as a player out of respect.

I can’t bring this up on a map at these coordinates. Has the Wayspot already been removed? There appear to be a lot more cemetery “gazebos” in the area, but i can’t find this one.

Maybe it had already been removed and the rejection is then correct, although very misleading. The image appears to be taken from Ingress Intel, which still has this as a portal - the evidence for this is the colouring of the pink dot.

the red pin is the given coordinates, and this shows the only “St John Cemetery Gazebo” i could find at different coordinates

but it is the same photo as the one in ingress. maybe it was just moved?

and that photo doesn’t look like the photo in the original post.

i give up. good luck with the appeal.

It seems the Wayspot has been moved. The coordinates I provided refer to its previous location. Sorry about that.

The route you see starts from the old coordinates.
