I know perfectly well what callboxes are. My area is infected with such wayspots.
Callboxes as a concept have been around for a while, but none of the ones that are out there on the streets are over 100 years old.
And a ton of the ones submitted ones around here are āmodernā ones, that looks like this
If a callbox is historical, itās going to be in a museum.
But players are abuse āvintageā, āhistoricalā, āretiredā, ādecommissionedā and other nonsense adjectives to get around the fact that
they are all the same
EXTREMELY common
they are still, or at least supposed to be, operational
obstruct emergency services operations
And Iām not talking about genuenly interesting art projects like

Iām talking about plain red pilars that are all over the place.

I can agree that Iād be disappointed to see that as a wayspot in the games I play.
I think people struggle to know what to nominate to get more in their game(s). I would not nominate something like that. To me itās like nominating graffiti (non sanctioned street art) vs murals. Would we want to take our friends who donāt play our games there?
According to Nianticās criteria not every neighborhood deserves to have wayspots. Some neighborhoods are actually boring residential homes with nothing interesting to look at. And thatās why players should go out of their way to find something interesting to submit, or better yet, put some effort into their real world community and make it an interesting place to live.
If players want trash like these generic callboxes to be in their games, then Niantic should just remove player submissions and generate a grid of wayspots with nothing connecting them to the real world.

Those arenāt clarifications from Niantic as said in the thread, mostly my own thoughts gathered up and showing some old AMAs from Andrew Krug, the former Ingress Community Manager that answered a question about post boxes.
Niantic hasnāt really said much about them, it just made sense to have a thread for it as it came up often on the old forums.
Just so itās clear for anyone else that whatever is said about postboxes in that thread isnāt from any current Niantic folks.
OMG, I would love a mug as well!!! Unfortunately, I think mugs are too heavy to ship to events. Those pesky logistics get in the way of getting us the stuff we truly want neeeeeeeed. LOL
What if you had a way to review nominations, use your best judgment, and didnāt have to worry about āagreementsā and āwarningsā? Would that be a better New Year wish?
I could see a WF Challenge participation badge for other games, but I would not want it to even resemble OPR Live. The way OPR Live started with being able to pay to have your nominations reviewed is so weird to me. Itās also completely unsustainable. I realize Ingress is kinda stuck with it, but donāt even bring the idea of paying for reviews to the other games.
