Why was this rejected?

Hello,

Im the manager at a hotel that has many guests that are Go players and tried submitting a potential stop for our property but has gotten rejected not once but 3 times now. Our property is open to the public 24 hours a day (so it doesn’t fall under private property) and the stop submission is of the entrance overhang to the building which is easily reachable by any passersby on the sidewalk or guests to the hotel or restaurant that are inside. Ive gone over the criteria multiple times and the fact that it keeps getting rejected makes zero sense. This isn’t the first stop that ive had rejected without any clarity to why and at this point it almost feels like people are rejecting them just to be trolls. Can some of you kind folks explain why this keeps being rejected while the hotel with a bell tower (which is on private property and requires you to go into the hotel to access) has multiple stops and a gym. Thank you in advance for any insight on this.

Hello @Skymander

I know it’s frustrating to have nominations rejected. I’ll see what I can do to break down a few things.

So I don’t see your description, so you may have addressed it there. But how would you describe the Hotel Overhang being a great place to be social with others, explore, or exercise? I’m not coming up with a great argument for any of them. The closest might be exploring the architecture… but that’s not a strong story here.

I have concerns with the location not being completely pedestrian friendly as this appears to be where cars drive up and pull through.

Does your hotel have a popular restaurant and bar? That would be a potential for being social.

Does your hotel have a pool? That would be great for exercise and social.

Does your hotel have any unique art in the common areas? That could be nominated with a nod to exploring.

Hope this helps and keep asking questions

Welcome to the forum @Skymander and I am glad you are here. The “Wayfarer criteria” rejection normally indicates that this was rejected by Niantic’s ML (machine learning ai) model. If this is the case the email will say “our team” instead of the community, and these decisions usually come around 24 hours after submitting the nomination. As mentioned by LetsRollGirl, a nomination has to meet at least one of these criteria:

  • A great place for exploration
  • A great place for exercise
  • A great place to be social with others

Research some of the criteria pages to get better ideas of what you might successfully submit. And feel free to post any ideas you have here for feedback.

You should also learn about S2 cells and Pokemon Go if you want to submit Wayspots that will show up in that game. A good article about that is this one: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

The private property that is not eligible is SFPRP - single family private residential property. Amenities within the hotel property would be eligible as Wayspots. This is explained more here:

It’s just an overhang of a building, is there anything special or unique that would make it a way stop? It’s kind of a tough sell to nominate a somewhat regular non description building feature as a wayspot.

Not saying that this is a surefire way to do it either, but putting an interesting statue in that area, a sculpture, a piece of art, would make a better wayspot submission. It doesn’t have to be huge either but something to make it stand out more and would be easily recognized as publicly accessible would help.

Have you tried nominating the entire hotel and not just the overhang? A hotel would be a great place for socialising so could see that being accepted but the overhang as other have said is hard to justify.

Have you tried taking a photo of the front face on and submitting it as the hotel and leave the overhang out of it?

Hotels as businesses don’t typically meet the criteria by themselves. The other suggestions to submit eligible things at the hotel are much more likely to result in approvals.
