With Pokemon Go going from L50 to L80

Free to play here :woman_raising_hand: and isnt the point you catch them manually  ….Community day is a good one for that task.

I dont worry about levels.

When I first heard about them I did agree but the fact they are official, the settings for them are already in Po Go

The majority of my play is doing short walks for exercise and I am too old to be able to walk whilst watching the screen, I would literally just fall over (my balance is not great). With this I can either set to auto throw standard pokeballs or set to throw others by pressing the button.

You do miss out on curve throw, great throw and berry bonuses but the fact you are catching whilst walking between stops makes up for it.

We had better not wander too far off topic

You don’t need a Go Plus. They’re a nice to have but not the necessity everyone says they are. Spotlight hours or community days are the easiest way, because you can catch 300 or more in an hour assuming you have an area with a good number of spawns. Some players can catch double that!! Palkia’s spacial rend enables you to reach a wider spawn area to collect more.

I remember I did that task on just a normal day, mid pandemic, when I couldn’t leave the house but incense worked when stationary. I was surprised, I think it was the first day I had the task!

Thing is though, above level 40, the levels don’t make any difference to how strong of a player someone is, so it doesn’t really matter. And obviously no difference for wayfarer either.

I do just think 35 is a bit too quick for wayfarer privileges, at least for some. That would be mitigated by having to prove some understanding before submitting and reviewing. Then level wouldnt matter at all! There is no reason why a dedicated level 20 couldn’t submit high quality nominations - but it would be rare to get any understanding in that short time. I think getting rid of the test was a bad idea (it could have been changed, improved, etc instead) or some other requirement added beyond level.

The catch 200 in a day was not that hard. Community days or spotlight hours were perfect for this. At the time I got the quest I completed it on the first day by going to a parking lot in the middle of nowhere, seem to be a lot of spawns there.

It also depends on how active you are.

Age of the player also plays a role, but not gonna go into detail with that, might be disrespectful. But let’s just say that my age helps me out quite a bit with this game.

The increase in levels available in the game is hopefully something good. I always wanted my level to reflect my skill level, but nowadays that is just not the case anymore.

Would also be nice to have some kind of exclusive logo you can set by your name for wayfarer depending on the amount of submissions you have done. The medal does not really do it for me, you look at it once and then it’s kinda there.

Agree, as like I previously said, I don’t think they’ll be any other level changes to Wayfarer in the near future. Staff is most likely still seeing how well the drop to L35 is going, so doing something extra for higher level players might just have to wait, if they even happen at all.

Hi there @P1dg3ySlayer,

Great questions and absolutely appropriate for our forum. At this time we haven’t yet decided where the new eligibility level will be placed, but we did discuss that no one currently at level 35+ will lose access to Wayfarer after Pokémon GO increases their max level.

I see the suggestions in response to your question and happy to take those to the team. I’m confident level might not be the measure to dictate eligibility but have it be a bit more nuanced  something to think about for us.

Thanks for the response Tintino. I am reading in between the lines here. Those who are currently Level 35+ and have acccess to Wayfarer and can submit won’t lose access. Those who reach level 35+ after the level cap increase could need to achieve a higher level (subject to whatever is set by the Wayfarer and the Pogo Team) in order to gain access to Wayfarer and submissions. Would that be a fair observation? I know nothing is confirmed until it is confirmed….

We just got these numbers

Here are XP requirements for key milestone levels.

Level 10: 48,000 total XP
Level 20: 258,000 total XP
Level 30: 1,083,000 total XP
Level 40: 3,953,000 total XP
Level 50:* 12,753,000 total XP
Level 60: 34,353,000 total XP
Level 70: 85,853,000 total XP
Level 80:* 203,353,000 total XP
To reach level 71 to 80, Trainers will need both to earn a certain amount of XP and complete new Level-Up Research tasks at each level.*
Tasks for Level-Up Research for levels 41 to 50 will be removed. Level-Up Research tasks will only be associated with levels 71 to 80.

Oh, so we could be getting more lvl 35 eligible players in the near future, so more new Wayfinders. Right now, 6,000,000 total XP is needed to reach lvl 35, and that total amount would seem to fall around lvl 44 or 45 once the adjustments are made.

So the reason / premise for my original question was based on the requirements to get to L35 would be significantly lower. So whilst I accept those who are currently L35 will still get / have access, I suspect that anyone who will get to L35 after the new levels come into effect should not get access to Wayfarer, as it would be too easy to get to L35. However, I don’t know how accurate my view is in terms of what will happen, but I hope the qualifying level will increase accordingly. I can see it going to L60 to somehwere close to L70, but I will welcome any news / announcement from the Staff Team as to what will happen.

Being that in the Roadmap announcement staff noted that there will be changes to level requirements, I don’t know if they will increase them. Keep in mind that the more users that are eligible to use Wayfarer, the more likely that it will be used.

There are for sure pros and cons to adding lower level users, but since we lost Ingress, there has to be a way to make up for those users possibly no longer being a part of Wayfarer, and their new users no being able to participate. Scopely has to find a way to make up the lost numbers from the sale, and this seems to be one way of doing it.

I would imagine people who become level 35 later this week will gain access. So wayfarer access will take very little time at all

I can only speculate as to what the intention is and what I would like to see happen, but I will wait to see what the official line is. I know we have lost Ingress Reviewers, but I don’t know what the new level up will really mean outside what has already been stated.

There are most likely several reasons as to why the XP is being retooled, and not all of it is Wayfarer related. But, I’d assume that Scopely would like to see more engagement in Wayfarer, possibly even from those that have been waiting to join but haven’t gotten to lvl 35 yet. They may want to make this a more successful product, now that they own it, and bringing in new users may help with that. Maybe they are hoping that they’ll get more Wayfinders from low-density Wayspot areas that will help add to the map in their areas.

Again, these could just be a few reasons. Every business wants to have successful products, and sometimes changes may be needed to keep them successful. It may be a little tough and an adjustment come the 15th (we may have to do more educating like we did once the level was lowered to 35), but it would seem that the pros outweigh the cons for Scopely and Wayfarer.

Using a bit of “Guestimate” as they have only shown XP needed for every 10 levels in the new system you will now need approx 2 million XP to get to Level 35 which would have got you to Level 30 currently.

Currently you need 6 million to reach Level 35 (Wayfarer Level) which will get you to level 42 / 43 on the new scale.

I understand that Scopely / Niantic may wish for more people to be able to participate but IMO this is too big a change.

I would personally prefer them to increase Wayfarer to the new Level 40 (still allowing a lower barrier to entry) then bring it down in smaller chunks in the future.

The issue I see here is loads of trainers get to higher levels by using lucky eggs and friendship bonuses. That doesn’t mean they know anything about the criteria or the map. So making it level 40 wouldn’t necessarily make them better at what Wayfarer needs.

Excellent points! We need some way to make sure that anyone who submits and/or reviews understands the basic eligibility, acceptance, and rejection criteria.

For me it goes down to time to get to the respective level. As it stands right now, you can get to L35 in next to no time. With the new levels and XP rebalance, getting to a higher level would be almost just as easy. So, the requirements should be high enough and there should, in principle, be some form of training that needs to be passed.

I really don’t see the level as the issue, but the onboarding and education that new Wayfinders receive, as that is something that could be greatly improved upon.
