Clarifications on Pokémon Go Power Spots [Discussion]

There does seem to have been some sort of update, as I haven’t seen any of the Power Spots that I was able to get removed come back within the last week. I also noticed my approved edits get applied as well, and most of those were submitted and approved at the beginning of December.

As for whether or not new Power Spots will get added, that’s something I haven’t heard about, and it’s possible that it may be due to the sync issue that staff noted about a month ago. New Wayspots continue to get added that aren’t in PoGo, so they could become Power Spots in the future; we just don’t know for sure.

I want to say again that having these imports show up in the nomination map check is not helpful. It makes it unclear to us as to whether these locations can be nominated as full-fledged Wayspots.

And apparently they confuse some appeals team members as well. Appealed nomination rejected as duplicate incorrectly by appeal reviewer

I went back to the location and took a screenshot of what the map looks like and there is no power spot.

there still could have been a powerspot for this at a different spot. can you move over to where this label is and check again?

I’m not in the area anymore but power spot should not cause a duplicate rejection

I completely agree with you, but often where you see labels on the map, there is an imported powerspot and you didn’t include that area in your screenshot.

Sorry, I just read this. This is not a large church. If The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a Gym & has been for years, should I report the Power Spot named Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a duplicate? I know I typed the second name differently since it is.

Should? idk. If it is making using the gym difficult then you can. I did report duplicates at Davis Drive Park because it was confusing. Niantic imported these spots for us to be able to do Max battles, and if it isn’t hurting anything, I don’t see any reason to clean them up.

Sorry for the delayed reply. The 2 are not at the same location or I would have reported already. I just didn’t know if a Power Spot should exist describing the same thing. Little Rock (Arkansas) hasn’t had RadioShack in years. I did report that Power Spot yesterday since it represents nothing or something but at least 20 years ago.

Okay well whatever happened tonight with Powerspots, two of the three I reported as SFPRP that had been gone are back. I am not reporting them again. Maybe I should just give up and submit the nearest neighborhood signs as Pokestops so I can make a route that goes near them.

Update 2/10/25 these are now gone again. I am not certain when that happened. I will make better notes if it happens again.

Can there be a note passed on to the wayfarer team or pokemon go team whichever is controlling reported wayspots there seems to have been two recent syncs of the database that removed accepted reported power spots and then today we have seen a reversal of this and the power spots are back at the start of the new season.

Also it has been almost 3 months since lightship poi have synced to power spots and trainers are patiently waiting on approved wayspots potentially being added as power spots that don’t meet inclusion rules for stops or gyms.

Updating this topic to note that there seems to have been a sync of new Power Spots from accepted Wayspots not used in Pokemon Go noticed on April 5!

Yes someone locally submitted something and had it approved recently. I explained it wouldn’t be a pokestop but might be a powerspot. They now believe me :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
I’ll try and get date of approval but the object was only installed on 1 st March so it will be about 2 weeks ago I think.

Yes. Here in my country unused wayspot also appear as power spot

Thanks for the update.

I’m curious as to how the Power Spots will be treated going forwards now. Will they all get removed from Ingress’ duplicate check? Will more of the “hidden” ones get synced in (go to any high street or shopping plaza and you’ll see tens of pins)?

Will be interesting to see what happens.

Well we nd more power spot and with power spot comes from unused wayspot, there should be less abuse

Unless I’m missing something, this is going to prevent me from adding a couple of stops I took photos for. Is it possible to add photos and get the power spot upgraded into a real waypoint? I can’t imagine straight up asking the reviewers not to mark it as a duplicate because the other point is a power spot will be well received.

I tested this, and being an imported power spot did not prevent my nomination of the eligible location from being accepted.

Ok, so power spots don’t show up for reviewers? I saw they were marked on the submission screen and was concerned.

i HATE that they are on the nomination map. so confusing. and i also hate that we can add photos to them through edits, because the way you used to be able to tell the imports was from the placeholder picture instead of a photo.
