Clarifications on Pokémon Go Power Spots [Discussion]

I wonder if I would feel differently about adding photos if it was like Ingress and I got some XP/AP when they got approved.

absolutely add photos to the stops and gyms!

Has anyone had success with removing powerspots that arent Private Property? I had a removal report rejected for a powerspot in the middle of a 4 lane highway(and even tho this doesnt matter anyways, no it doesnt have sidewalks on the side) Just wonsering if its worth it at this point to bother since I have to get so close or be driven around to report a lot of these through pogo  the business its attached to is no where nearby and it obviously isnt safe.

I have reported 2 and been told both were accepted and I would see them removed very soon.

It’s been over a month and both are currently active.

I’m not mad :man_shrugging:t2: I can interact with them as I like and it’s clearly not a priority for whatever team has active ownership of them.

Are you sure Ingress was given the option? It makes more sense if Niantic didn’t want to shell out the extra bucks that the data broker would have charged, to pay to add it to Ingress, Monster Hunter, etc.

How did you report? And eould it have made more sense to correct its location rather than report it for removal?

From the perspective of a Pokemon Go player, one would need to travel to the unsafe location and submit a location edit from there. This would only be good for <10 meters, and assumes that the player has identified a valid, ‘real’ location for the target.

I’m not at all happy with the way staff are labeling our actions as abusive these days, and have not found anything to motivate me to risk my game or Wayfarer account - let alone my health and safety - just to clean up Niantic’s mess.

I’ll give you that it’s unclear, but there’s also the method of using Help Chat or the “Request Modification of a Gym” ability that we’ve been instructed may be used.

It is extremely difficult to find what may be the equivalent of the “real” location, especially with home businesses or a specific worker’s tag being used.

It won’t work for everyone but for finding the actual address for a business, those in the UK could use Companies House for registered businesses.

I have seen some that are placed at a Director’s address instead of the actual company.

From the Ingress Telegram channel in regards to their position on the recent wayspot imports from third party databases and the decision to not sync across any of them in the future.

Thats not the only method to do edits and removal requests. Hence why i asked what method they used so I can possibly suggest trying a different way, or even appealing here in the forums.

That was because Machina had so much processing time, with so many wayspots to choose from for linking. Türkiye is the only place that got a big import dump in Ingress. Linking is very computer-time intense.

Other places did get the imports too originally before Ingress decided to remove them. I linked to when they got connected to Lightship so had all the photoless imports

This has been a problem in Brazil because of the imports, even without the photos people think they are eligible. Yesterday I was talking about this with someone during spotlight hour. I haven’t done photo edits because of it.

I left out “some” but, yes, I sure that ingress opted out of some of these imports - first post i found:

oh didn’t see you had already answered - ty!

I nominated a restaurant the other day that exists as a powerspot, which eMiLy approved. I think it’s safe to say that at the very least the bot isn’t using the existing power spots as something to check against.

I 100% agree with you on this, especially now that we’re able to update the photos. None of them have photos, so I’ve been using that as a way to tell them apart. Which, I know, isn’t foolproof.

This whole endeavour seems full of missteps.

ML took and approved my photo for a Power Spot which is a Portal in Ingress too.

It hasn’t taken the photos for ones that are Power Spots only, so looks like they will go through regular voting.

I originally reported for “permanently removed” cause its on a highway by an airport so there is nothing but the airport and forest around it so I assumed it was a really old import of a business no longer there. After researching, it actually is just over 1 mile away from the powerspot… so I guess it being over a mile away means it isnt exactly permanently removed, just removed from the location the pin is at. I wouldnt be able to correct the location in game due to it being over 1 mile away from the power spot. Im unsure with powerspots being as strange as they are for edits/removals if Help Chat would be able to assist. Its just a frieght trucking company. I will probably report it for unsafe next and see if that has a better result. If not I may try help chat.

Lots of reports of Power Spots today. Duplicates, non-existent things and ones at PRP.

I assume there’s a massive amount of similar reports at someone’s desk now for these so I don’t expect any quick action.
