I really don’t think I’m going to go around taking photos of Power Spots, especially those that are generic businesses and apartments. Besides, the Western Union Power Spot is at the customer service counter at the grocery store, so might be asked some questions by staff…
I have seen a few things today that haven’t become power spots before but I haven’t noticed any new light-ship waypoints that I got approved since late October that appear in other niantic games that could be eligible to become power spots.
Ok, so got another question. I just had a Power Spot removal request rejected. I even provided the website for the business, which has the correct location listed, in my comment for removal, and asked that it be checked for confirmation. The Power Spot in question is located a few miles away from where the actual business is, and even searching for it on Google Maps shows it nowhere near where the Power Spot is.
Do we post in the Wayspot Appeals forum to appeal the decision? Do we resubmit the removal request when the Power Spot pops back up?
IMO, the vest course of action there is to correct its location.
Ugh, and I don’t know when I’ll be in that area again, to see if there’s a Power Spot for the business there or not.
I know that I had a Wayspot’s title corrected after requesting removal, as it used to be a tennis court but now is half pickleball and half basketball. They kept the tennis court Wayspot and made it the pickleball court one, so I was later able to get the basketball court submitted and accepted.
Power Spots can just be so frustrating at times…
There really needs to be a better way to deal with reporting and editing Power Spots.
It’s not ideal when they only show up for a maximum of 48 hours at a time, and you need to be within 80 metres of them to actually do anything to them. It’s also not ideal that they’re subject to the same distance limits for wayspot location edits, when they’re often very out of place.
The other day I spotted one that was quite far out of place, and couldn’t request an in game edit to fix the location. I never got around to trying the location edit through the support chat, but this actually turned out to be a good thing, as it turns out there’s another Power Spot with a different name that represents the same thing and is already in the correct location. This Power Spot had never previously shown up before. The trouble is, now that I know it exists, the misplaced one is no longer showing in game to report it as a duplicate, and I have no idea when (or even if) it will show up again so that I can submit a report.
It seems very ill thought out that so many low quality imports have been made, and that submitting corrections or removal requests for them relies on when RNG decides that they will be visible for a very short period of time. It doesn’t really make me enthused about trying to fix them all, especially when there are so many with issues.
Where is that
reaction emoji.
Agreed. It would be great if they could even be reported when on the nomination map screen and you see the mass of orange Wayspot markers.
How do Niantic expect us to review that particular edit?! I dont understand what we could do.
Jack in the Box is a business name. At a minimum, that’s what i would choose.
That’s a good question without a picture or description it might not be obvious at all.
Clearly for those in the USA this meant something ![]()
I guess an example for us in the U.K. might be title like Greggs ![]()
Gregs
Greggs Bakery
Greg’s Plastering Services
Context of the place would help and being able to streetview. But it could be difficult to discern.
I think McDonald’s could be good international brand that has a few different names/nicknames.
McDonald’s (official name)
McD’s
Mick E Dees
Mick A Dees
Those Jack In The Box title edits should appear to be a good deal of spam to me…
I’d probably have chosen that too but just because it was the most properly written title - there’s literally nothing to go on to tell a reviewer what to pick!
Maybe interacting with street view helped, but the map there has nothing labelled. No description or picture means picking words at random, by guesswork, or skipping.
A lot of these businesses are places we’ve never heard of, a local plumbing company for example, so the name could be anything- it’s not like the company is really based there anyway, just the plumber’s house😅
You’re right that many of the businesses are random. This one is not. Jack in the Box is a major fast food burger chain. I’m not surprised a Brit hasn’t heard of it, but most Americans have.
Coming back to this.
My photo addition that’s for a Power Spot was approved.
Instead of the grey image, it now shows the image I submitted in the duplicate check map.
This really blurs the lines for Pokémon GO players who could now see in their duplicate check that the Power Spot has a photo and description even though the thing is ineligible (in my case it’s a dog groomers at a single family residence private property, and yes it’s been reported as such).
I won’t be adding any more photos as I don’t want Pokémon GO players to be (even more) confused around eligibility and what they see on the map but at least I have an answer now and wanted to share it with you all.
and could have the opposite effect that explorers don’t submit locations that are eligible but are showing as a powerspot that is not immediately recognizable as such. this is such a mess.
Agreed. I feel the Pokémon GO team will not give two
s however and leave it all for Wayfarer to clean up.
This is not good… Not good at all…
No wonder my title edits aren’t showing when the Power Spots I got them aporoved for pop up…
