Oh that looks like a dedicated area for the Farmers Market! I’m jealous. The ones in the towns near me, always have to close down a the street for a block or so. So in my case I couldn’t nominate a Farmers Market.
I think you could have a good chance on this.
Thanks.
I wasn’t sure if the every Saturday might not work in its favour.
That could go either way I suppose. But hopefully the locals will remember that they go every Saturday for several years. Fingers crossed.
I’m torn on these. It is only open for a few hours on 1 day per week. I don’t love that. But then, I like swimming pools and those are closed for months around me. I would be most swayed as a reviewer if the products available are more than just fruits and vegetables. If you could buy crafts or specialty items that are made locally, then I would be more favorable towards it. Jams, local honey, biscuits - the kind of stuff that’s packaged with a card that explains who made it and how it relates to the local culture. Make the case that this is where you buy local goods to send as gifts to your friends so they get “a piece” of your area.
Thank you for bringing up swimming pools. The ‘Permanent/Distinct/Seasonal’ was bothering me, but I had a sense that some items can overcome this.
As said above, I like this Farmers Market, because it seems to have a permanent safe area. No closing down streets or things like that.
Out of curiosity @26thDoctor, do you know if this land is used for other things during the week? We have some overflow parking lots that rotate throughout the year. Often just a parking lot, seasonally a circus sets up there, and then over the holiday we get a winter market.
I’d struggle with your nomination a bit if it hosts different things at different times.
Ooh. There’s a mall near me that rents out one section of their parking lot to a traveling carnival - once or twice a year. They rent out a different section to traveling circus shows (no formal calendar).
I have never submitted either of those spots because they aren’t permanent enough, IMO.
The same as my example. I feel like I’d struggle to prove that it’s anything more than a parking lot.
Not that I know of.
If it helps the car park is a listed building… No really this car park is actually listed.
Or pickled haggis
Druid candles. I should have guessed.
Of course. Every good Celt has their own personal Druid.
You too can have your own druid, family tartan and personalised ancestry for only £250*
As long as they don’t fling me through a rock to a time 200 years in the past.
Personally I love this and would vote for it.
I havent submitted our farmer’s market as Im rarely over that part of town but it has a massive cow mural at the entrance which is a waypoint. Its a very popular one for gifts in Go because who wouldnt want a picture of a giant cow face?
Omg thats hilarious
Okay thank you for bearing with me while I finished typing this and again sorry for pinging you for a very early draft of this
This is a topic near and dear to my heart (read: the bane of my wayfarer-related existence). I think a lot of people misunderstand the “Permanent and Distinct” question. Or maybe I’m the one misreading it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Here’s the relevant guideline:
Nominations and edit submissions must meet all of the following acceptance criteria:
- Must be a permanent physical, tangible, and identifiable place or object, or object that placemarks an area
The way i understand the “Permanent and Distinct” question is that a swimming pool is okay because players would still be able to find an empty pool in the winter. It’s only in use part of the year, but the structure is permanent. The empty pool serves as an “object that placemarks an area.”
I’ve had NUMEROUS nominations rejected for saying a permanent structure was “Not Permanent or Distinct.” One egregious example was a cinderblock barn with a massive sign saying its name. I used my 2 appeals because I didn’t realize I only had 2 on two seasonal transit stops. The trams are only in service 2 weeks a year, but the signs marking the stops are permanent. Niantic accepted both of my appeals.
So @26thDoctor I think you have an excellent case to nominate your farmers market if that sign (or another sign) is a permanent fixture, but there’s a pretty good chance that reviewers will reject it and you’ll need to appeal.
Farmers market for the win
Can I have my Druid candle please
And pickled haggis? No thank you.
I’ll pin my hopes on Emily getting to it first
One deep fried Druid Candle on its way.
