I can only think that, given the levels required for edits to get the rewards, this (and worse) is exactly what should have been expected from the challenge.
Agreed, they are foolish to think that people wouldnāt do exactly this. Especially given how limited the amounts available are. Many people will be struggling to find things in their area within the right edit categories as they have already used up others. Another poorly thought out event, not that we expect anything else at this point!
They could have structured their challenge so that awards would go only to Edits that staff agree to, or that the community accept or (?), but they went with raw numbers and donāt seem to have thought things through to a great degree.
Donāt you suppose the purpose of this exercise is to help to train Machine Learning about proper edits?
Nobody said they were going to move everything away from the PoI. The statement was to look for things that can be improved in an already tight environment.
Do you want us not to look? Is that why Niantic is stressing quantity over quality, and making it very difficult to score well in this challenge, so that weāll try instead to conform to your expectations?
@NianticTintino By the way, should I add one photo to each of the 10 spots to get 10 points? Or can I get the same reward by adding 10 photos to just one spot?
Unlike previous challenges, there are no counters, so it is difficult to figure out the detailed rules.
Iāve mostly been submitting edits on Ingress by setting up Comms.
If anyone else wants to do the same:
- Open Ingress
- Open COMMS
- Go to Activities tab
- Set distance to 50km
- Tap any Portal with a misspelled title or one you think may need a description edit
- Make the edit
Iāve did 40 yesterday easily doing this.
I have a few photos uploaded and Iāll get some more done today as well for local things that need updating.
I think thatās the point being made isnt it? That in order to manage to achieve the challenge at all, we would have to?
I was not intending to touch location edits at all because they are a minefield
That alone means the whole thing is pointless as its impossible to get to the top tier
Wait, you can edit remotely in Ingress? Oh wow, this is SO much easier than in Go where you have to be within the interaction radius of the item!
Sucks to be a Go only Wayfarer for this one. Especially since the daylight hours now for many of us are so short that images are night shots or weekend only
Yeah, has been a thing for ages in Ingress.
I will update some photos on Wayspots later on a walk, but being able to do some edits from the sofa after watching Agatha All Along this evening is a nice thing for this challenge.
Yeah, makes it a little more like a review challenge where you can do it anywhere, anytime
I have to plan to go outside for it. Today is nice but I have to work, and then gym in the evening, and itll be dark before I finish work. So I wont be able to do anything today.
Tomorrow I have a friend over in the morning and then I have plans from 3pm, so a very limited window there too.
Saturday I have these max battles in the morning and a concert in the evening. I think that will take all my energy and I wonāt be able to walk around looking at edits
So my only choice is Sunday now. Because then its back to work and darkness.
where can i find the counter of this event for my own status
There isnt going to be a counter available, so we will have to keep track ourselves, maybe based on submission emails?
since handling the wayfarer edits via wayfarer also count this is not possible.
and how is Niantic tracking rewards then
There was another ban wave connected to those again last night. Iāll assume they will have fixed it by then but just incase you didnāt see.
Presumably out of a database after the challenge ended?
There was a comment from staff about this, I can try to find it. Here it is
If I was from I dunnoā¦ The USA. I could log into Ingress and edit I dunnoā¦ Churches where everyone is welcome?
That sounds like it would be relatively easy to do some edits!!
Ive managed 2.
Editing remotely is a pretty neat feature.
They have no nearby map of Wayspots though and donāt know where they are going and nowhere to complain about it so jokes on them.
Is there a way to keep track of how many edits youāve done??
Almost 24 hours in, and wondering where weāre at, even with the errors yesterday. Iām still going to get more than 10 edits submitted, but still donāt know about the 50 for individual rewards (like I need another egg incubator).
@belbelninja We have to keep track of our edits ourselves, but Niantic will update from time to time with the community totals.
You should be able to see the edits in your wayfarer.nianticlabs.com login.
