Gyms are getting relocated to someone's home

Hi there!

We are a CA(my wife) community in the Netherlands. We noticed that lately all gyms in the area are being removed. By upvoting some stop with a lot of likes on the pictures someone is moving all the gyms to one location. Is this accepted behavior? We, as a community, find this a difficult because on our CA meetup location there are almost no gyms left.

For example, was a stop for a long time now. A new foto(same) is added. and gets 22 votes. (bottom right)

in some way a gym gets removed and this upvoted stop becomes a gym:

this is a screenshot from campfire, Its clearly visible that all new gyms that are ‘created’ this way are focused on one area:

The one’s with red crosses are already gone is the last 2 weeks or so. Campfire does not update that frequently.

Once again, in my opion this should not be acceptable play. I dont know how the existing gyms get removed. What bothers us the most is that most of the removed gyms are Elite locations.

Maybe someone can look into this?

Some examples of removed gyms:

Vincent

Hm this is interesting. As far as i know gym creation is random. I understand that its possible that gym got removed (assuming its removed correctly because its ineligible) but people cant manipulate that certain pokestop become gym by manipulating vote (it was like that in the past but no more)

The best they can do is by reporting converted gym until it land on what he/she want. But its still random.

Hello and welcome. @skeruno1981

It sounds like you are describing a complicated attempt to manipulate the game board which is considered malicious and subject to sanctions if proven.

Are the places/objects that were the gyms still in existence? If they are, you can request they are reinstated as pokestops. If new gyms have been created they stay. You can request reinstatement in Wayspot Appeals

If there has been systematic attempts to manipulate gym location then please do use this form to provide all the evidence.

The team will then investigate.

It’s certainly possible to manipulate, in this instance there are at least 22 accounts.

From various names that can be seen participating in wayfarer from this it’s obvious that they are all alts.

They aren’t done in this location and have more false wayspot removals planned as you can see the setup for it being prepared to put gyms on locations of their liking

Hello and welcome @Skinnydeads

Please do use the form posted above to provide as many details as possible.

There is plenty scope for attachments. You can prepare a document and attach that as well.

It will be taken seriously.

Has been done before with earlier examples, some names and a note of visible next abuse planning.

Was ignored back then so it has been building up for more evidence

Delfts blauwe willem brug was also manipulated to become a gym, removed again so they can optimize the gameboard.

Hopefully it’ll be enough this time, but if they looked into the accounts back then this wouldn’t have had become such large scale abuse

They will look at this case.

Just ensure your evidence is provided. Understandably the team will need solid grounds on which to act.

Hi there!

Thank you for your support. I have created a case and will try to provide as much evidence as i have. Do i need to provide evidence for all the different gyms? These are gone for some weeks now and i may have not screenshots of these all. But you probably can see that there are edits on these wayspots recently.

kind regards,

Vincent

Hey @skeruno1981 and @Skinnydeads, you probably still remember me from a couple meetups, last year. Nice to see you both on the forums.

As for your case all the evidence you can provide use it, this can include geotagged photo’s of certain locations, video’s or either messages from players stating abuse. Maybe the original photo’s of the wayspots could be usefull too.

I would provide the coordinates, title, (geotagged) photo’s for every location if possible.

@AMG7070 is giving good advice.

List everything and if you know roughly when a change happened add that.

it is supposed to be like that, but I have seen many reports that still isn’t the case, also from my experiences in the last week. I do see that likes usually have the least influence, it’s actually the amount of photo’s that I have been noticing are becoming gym, if same amount of images, likes matter

@skeruno1981 and @Skinnydeads I can possibly send you a DM by campfire if you want so we can talk more about the situation with additional info that cannot be metioned here, because of privacy.

Hi @AMG7070 !

You we still know who you are. Im constructing a list with all the wayspots and gps coords to be attached to the abuse ticket. I can dm you later(Campfire) on on how to move forward. We do prefer to do a rollback for the mentioned wayspots though.

the list of gyms that got removed/relocated we collected this far, although probably incomplete:

“Knooppunt 59” at 51.978549821535886, 4.36586434833559
“Loopbrug de Adder” at 51.9852457612177, 4.364910533566602
“3 Variaties op een Vierkant” at 51.98299608492064, 4.362178438852471

“Delftsblauwe willemsbrug” at 51.983042772779285, 4.3632999971104045
“Lighthouse” at 51.98114982118412, 4.364608518708316

Based on the photosphere from 2018, the removal of this wayspot looks 100% correct as it is clearly an ineligible duplicate of “Knooppunt 18 Trail & 59”, which was incorrectly positioned on the other side of the path in a different cell so that a different photo could be taken of the same trail marker and put in the correct cell.

That’s the very first one I checked. This entire area is littered with wayspots for trailmarkers that are 30-100 metres apart, all in separate cells, and often with lots of different trail numbers along a single stretch of path with no junctions.

Can anyone else have a look at this location and see if the portals in Ingress seem as suspicious as they do to me?

Alright, Im not avaible at the moment, but I will check every spot seperately on my end as well. I will DM my findings and some additional info that I can’t mention here. Thx for the information.

Based on the information available to us, all these Wayspots have been removed for legitimate reasons.

We’re constantly making improvements to Pokémon GO. Occasionally, you may notice changes to the PokéStops or Gyms in your community. T̶h̶i̶s̶ i̶s̶ w̶o̶r̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ a̶s̶ i̶n̶t̶e̶n̶d̶e̶d̶ a̶n̶d̶ t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ i̶s̶ n̶o̶ f̶o̶u̶l̶ p̶l̶a̶y̶.

Hi!

I have my doubts on that. For example: “3 Variaties op een Vierkant” at 51.98299608492064, 4.362178438852471 this is a valid art structure still in place. What would be te reason for removal? im just curious.

Kind regards,

Vincent

Hi!

This is “3 Variaties op een Vierkant” at 51.98299608492064, 4.362178438852471:

Should be a valid wayspot.

Kind regards,

Vincent

Could you provide a recent video of this structure at this location?
