Is it worth asking for a Wayspot to be moved under these circumstances?

The closest I can find that we got to an official statement on this:

To me, this would indicate that an edit that is moved around just to manipulate the gameboard could be seen as abuse. I try to remember to phrase it as “could” or “may” instead of “is” or “will” when I warn about location edits to equally accurate positions.

Funnily enough I saw something not too dissimilar recently. It looked like the pin position was at the entrance to the church grounds rather than the church. As in this case where the photo was taken. It all looked a bit odd with other POI in the grounds but nothing on the actual church building which is what is the object.

I can see the argument that the church grounds/church building is same thing, it just doesn’t quite feel right.

However it didn’t irk me enough to be motivated to do anything . :joy:

@cyndiepooh This is another good example of Niantic’s thoughts on the matter, for future reference.

Both of those talk about moving away from the correct location. The issue that was a surprise to me was that moving to a location that is equally correct and will make it appear in Pokemon Go can be considered abuse.

This is a case of damned if I do and damned if I don’t. I could sub a new image of the church to be closer. However, it would be seen as abuse.

The more I think about it, the more I am getting comfy with my OCD.

A new photo would be fine. I add photos all the time that are from different positions

That same post I linked had this comment from Aaron:

You could always just tell help chat you noticed this and ask if they think it should be moved.

@Glawhantojar

The conversation I’m linking below talks both about duplicate (so equivalently correct locations…). It is not a direct comment to support this conversation, plus we need to remember that comments from employees are specific to that specific wayspot.

It’s not really important for it to be moved. The Wayspot is a Gym, and I think a lot of people would be upset if it was moved to the point of it not being accessible. If both locations can be seen as correct, there’s no real harm in leaving it where it is.

@P1dg3ySlayer The choice is yours.

My opinion is that if the nomination is the church then the Pin should be at the Church. Not somewhere in the grounds or at the sign.

I would not see this as manipulation of the Game board because I see this has the Pin is not correct with it not being at the church, moving it should not be a problem.

My only worry would be if this affects it as a Gym?

If you decide to act on it, My suggestion is the same as some above, use the Help Chat, this way you are not risking your account as you are asking staff and they will be making the decision.

Good luck.

The manipulation issue that was raised is based on me also wanting to submit the Noticeboard that currently located in the same cell as the current Wayspot. It’s a justifiable point that moving an existing Wayspot in order to get another Wayspot in game can be seen as abuse. I don’t have to move the existing Wayspot to be honest…. it’s just keeping my OCD in order.

Obviously, this is just my opinion but to me…

  • You are correcting a location for the Church which IMO is in an incorrect location.
  • If this opens up the previous cell then that is a by product.

IMO: This is unlike for example if you was to move a correctly placed Pin behind a Football Field Goal to the other Goal for gaming reasons this could be Abuse.
