Missing Pokestops

I was told that just a year ago this public town park was full of PokéStops and had many approved Wayspots, but then one day they all disappeared without explanation. This is a fully public town park used by hundreds of people every day. Now, it only has a single PokéStop, one Gym, and one PowerSpot.

Can anyone help figure out what happened?
** Edit - This is also the reason that alot of submissions here fail for being duplicates. The wayspots cannot be seen in the map when submitting, as if they don’t exist. However, I did happen to see the wayspots and missing pokestops when I got my duplicate decision on one of them.

Wayspot Title: Unknown
Location (lat/lon): See attached screenshot
City: Greece, NY
Country: USA

Hi @KiiNkYL0v3
Do you know when the previous wayspots disappaered?
Here is a recent post that could be the reason what has happend:

I don’t think this is the issue. These were remove prior to last week. Has to have glitched or have been removed for at least a year or more.

I recently came back to playing the game in the last few months and spoke with some several of my community members who frequented this park for years and state that this area suddenly lost many stops at least a year ago if not longer. I did put in a request to speak with the town supervisor who stated that they played no part in having the stops removed and they have no problem with having the stops at the local park. So I wonder why they could have so suddenly disappeared. It is a beautiful park with lots of amenities and I can imagine it’s a huge and tragic loss for a lot of of the frequent pogo players.

Thanks for checking.
You’ve said that you can’t see those missing Wayspots but if you try to nominate them you receive a rejection for being a duplicate.
When you’re right at the location (the range is limited to around 100m) and open a fresh submission, can you see them on the submission map? Every (used and not) wayspot should be on that map with an orange !. When you click it you can see what wayspot it is.

Hi @KiiNkYL0v3, this location has been removed at the request of the property owner. We need a request directly from Director of the Parks Department or property owner of this location to reinstate the Wayspots. Thanks,

Thank you for the response. I wonder if they removed because the walking trail does get particularly close to the homes on the trail. I will put in a request to speak with the Parks Department.

This is actually the main problem, now that I know the wayspots were removed at the request of the property owner. The issue does still stand that people are nominating stops and they are being marked duplicates because the wayspots cannot be seen while attempt to submit. I can 100% confirm that these wayspots cannot be seen when entering a submission. I went back to this location yesterday and none of the 6-7 approved wayspots, although removed at the request of the property owner, are visible when nominating. It is unfortunate, but now that I know what is happening, I may avoid the location altogether when nominating for fear that I may get negative strikes for nominating duplicates. Very sad, it is a really nice park.

Please show us the nomination map screen when you are standing right at one of these locations. It should be showing the removed wayspots as exclamation points if they are being marked as duplicates in review.

The nomination map screen does not work remotely. It only works over a very short distance from right where you actually are.

Will this work showing the map on my existing submissions? If not, I can attempt to go to the location later tonight and get screenshots for reference.

I do not think we made clear what we are asking you to check. If you go to the missing stop and begin a nomination, you can turn on the toggle in the nomination map screen. It will show any wayspots that are not being used in pokemon go as exclamation points. Like this:

This is how you can see wayspots that are not pokestops or gyms.

I understand. I was just wondering if map showing on my current nominations would show similarly - which it does not. I will go to the location later tonight, as I am working, and will take screenshots for you.

@KiiNkYL0v3 Unfortunately, we cannot share the context of the property owner request. While reaching out to them, you can share them this link to report to us.

Niantic’s hands are tied. If a person with the correct authority requests that pokestops are removed, gyms are removed, gyms are downgraded or anything at all like that, Niantic have to honour that request. They will be extremely limited in what details they can provide to players.

You have fortunately been told at what level you need to go to ask for the removal request to be rescinded and @NianticAaron has provided a link to be followed by the appropriate person.

Here is the map. I nominated a waypoint directly in the middle of the pond, where there is a newly built walkway and pavilion. It was marked a duplicate. This is not the only “missing” waypoint in this area that does not show when nominating.

You are not where this Wayspot exists for your nomination map check. It is over to the west.

So the Wayspot is there on the nearby map, and being marked as a duplicate in review is not a bug. Thank you for checking. You have to be right at the point of interest you are submitting for this check to work.
