Considering the current rules for pokestops and gyms in PoGo, this issue could have easily been foreseen?
I also wonder if the Wayfarer Ambassadors were consulted in advance about this change.
I am sure that the Ambassadors, being good Wayfinders, could have pointed out this issue in advance.
It would be wise to withdraw the change, take action, and convert again.
Does the Wayfarer team understand that with this update there is no longer any excuse for the inconsistency of statements?
You responded to wayfinders’ criticisms when you imported from various other location databases for power spots by saying, “This is a different criteria than wayspots, so it’s not a problem.”
But now that you have converted them into pokestops, will you still continue to say that this is a different criteria than wayspot?
Thanks for the update @NianticTintino .
I checked this morning again and no pokestops or gym showed up for us. Here is a screenshot for comparison of what we had during max finale and after the powerspot ugrade. I think only 1 pokestop showed up.
This is merely speculation, so feel free to disregard it. When all imported locations were converted into wayspots, the original locations of the powerspots may have been automatically processed as having disappeared from the PokémonGO game board. In other words, since the imported locations became wayspots, they might be treated as separate entities. Since powerspots are reportedly updated on the 4th of every month, they may reappear as powerspots in the next update.
Is there someway to DM you my hometown? I’ll even leave the approx coordinates of my location.
@elijustrying Thank you for suggestion and I am not targeting you at all but I am done with doing wayfarer nominations despite having very positive experience in past. I nominated lot of stops in my hometown and other city I was in for university and it was fine then because the game was in infancy in my country. I actually think I had 100% success rate on nominations some even took 6-7 months lol.
Now we are at point where I just paid for 3 tickets(Go Fest, bottle cap and Max finale) in past 3 months on top of x2 price of cday tickets and to play normally I am being asked to do even more free labor(by a company with $1 billion revenue in 2024 and getting sold for $3 billion lol) because they want new players and messed up. No sorry.
Either this gets fixed till Wild Arena(2.5 months away) or I am quitting and moving on. Apparently the game is getting millions of new players with these Pokestop update so it should be fine for them lol.
Or they can make powerspot spinable like gym haha. At least we can say import pokestop doesnt follow normal wayspot criteria. We ald have enough people using existing pokestop as submission basis.
You have my empathy as it must be a deeply frustrating situation that you now find yourself in.
Adding more pokestop and gym very good decision but amount powerspot evolve in to pokestop/gym maybe worth considering again. My city which is 80km wide have 6 powerspot, Maybe that’s too little. Perhaps the location of Powerspots could be considered or distributed evenly throughout the area, such as on main roads or those frequented by trainers. Moreover, currently powerspots are more important because they include the newest content from Pokemon. For reference, I pass 11 powerspots on my daily commute. But now they’ve all been turned into gyms/pokestops, even though they’re on roads frequently used by the community here. It’s okay to reduce the amount but don’t make it less.
This update feels pretty disappointing for rural players like me. At first, I thought the announcement about eligible Powerspots being converted into Pokestops and Gyms would improve local gameplay, but in my area, not even a single one got converted.
What makes it worse is that in our local area, we had 3 active Powerspots in a visible distance in the map before the announcement, and now they’ve completely disappeared from the game. No new Pokestops, no Gyms, and not even the Powerspots are showing up anymore.
For rural players who already struggle with fewer wayspots, this actually makes gameplay harder, not better. It feels like Niantic focused on conversions without properly ensuring consistent coverage for smaller towns and villages. I really hope this gets looked into because the current implementation isn’t helping rural areas at all. Only making it worse.
I do empathise.
I appreciate its not much comfort but as was said yesterday the team are reading this and taking in the feedback.

It seems for rural area where there is not much powerspot, chance of making pokestop also slim. Even for urban area where there is many option. The lack of powerspot is astonishing. I still have thousands leftover max particle from max finale but i cant empty it because of too few powerspot
Honestly, making powerspots, which were there mostly because they were ineligible as pokestops in the first place, into pokestops, is NOT an ideal solution. All this does is create a bunch of pokestops where they should not be. Also, they clustered together, which mean you would have to remove them manually later on anyways.
Plus, many powerspots disappeared. Now we cant do dynamax / gigantamax battles, which defeats the purpose of doing this in the first place (did you not say this is because you wanted trainers who can do gmax raids ? To get more, stronger players?)
All in all, a lazy solution which make the problem worse.
Here’s a thought, maybe shorten the votes needed for new pokestops instead. Instead of 20, how about a 7? Or a 5? This would solve the problem without making new, bigger, problems!
Imo the only solution to reach Wayfarer eligibility level is to just buff friendship level bonus XP. After all you’ll also get nice thing from gifts especially that if you’ve reached 450/450 friends that you feel you won’t need to spin Pokestops anymore.
Rightly said. They are trying to help rural players who couldnt play well in gmax because they have weaker community due to lack of pokestops. Removing powerspots and making them pokestops is a really weird solution. Now they cant do gmax battles anymore.
So 3 days and so far the response basically has been “Please hold your call is important to us” lol.
- So far as expected and I predicted the response has been neutral to bad.
- No large scale backlash because not enough players play the game. You can check there’s nothing on reddit/twitter etc.
- I also went ahead and asked in my city campfire group. No answer from anyone positive or negative.
- No answer from Mumbai(one of largest city) campfire group too. I did a passing check on Delhi(capital) group again no discussion on this topic.
- I did DM 3 players in my city and they obviously had no clue about this news but had similar observation.
- Also I forgot to mention before users here start submitting wayspot for D/G-Max do it at your own risk. If something happens to your wayfarer account you can kiss your Pogo account goodbye and they don’t tell you this beforehand. Nice isn’t it? free labor and they still might ban you and then you’re basically in customer care hell apologizing and pleading on knees to rescind/remove ban lol. Yes the possibility is low and I have submitted plenty wayspots in past without trouble but keep in mind it’s not 0.
The risk of getting banned via wayfarer is so high that majority of the players in my area dont bother anymore.
@NianticTintino are we getting any resolution anytime soon? Please provide us some updates
That’s over simplification of an inaccurate perception. There is no risk in Wayfaring unless someone abuses the system. I can guarantee you that.
I think a good solution for now would be to temporarily reverse the change and wait for more community feedback. And then try make make sure that there are enough power spots so that players dont have to travel 15-30 Km for just 1 D-max or G-max battle. What do you guys think should happen about this situation?
