It was recently reported to the Wayfarer Discussion Discord that a would-be explorer at level 37 in Pokemon Go received this message. It has been a long time since level 10 in Ingress was a requirement for Wayfarer, so this message should be updated. I do not have a screenshot of the exact message. It could either be tweaked to add “or level 37 in Pokemon Go”, or just state that the account is not eligible without the Ingress bit, if y’all want to leave the level requirement fluid.
It turned out that they only needed to restart their game to access Wayfarer, but it was very concerning and confusing for them to receive this message.
That is not the message I am talking about. When a new explorer tried to access Wayfarer, they got the message that they were not eligible and had to be level 10 in Ingress.

I have, and to me it seems as though the mesage that they are getting is that they must be level 10 in Ingress in order to access Wayfarer. Also, why would Ingress mention other games, since PoGo doesn’t for Wayfarer. It’s a bit unclear whether or not the user is level 10 or not.
Okay let me reword the request. The explorer was trying to access at level 37 in Pokemon Go. If it confused you, it might have confused staff. Thank you for mentioning.
as a pogo player, if it asked you to be level 37 in pogo, you’d probably realize it was a syncing bug somehow that needs to be waited out or refreshed… but since it tells you you need to be level 10 in Ingress, you can imagine the confusion of thinking youre missing an extra requirement of playing another game.
I am sure that there are plenty of places on the internet they could land where outdated information would still say they did have to submit through Ingress.
My boys were discussing how tricky it is to write error display messages, because they have to be careful how much they reveal in the message. But they both agreed that an error message that tells you that you have to play a different game is bad.
No, we all must understand that issuing false information is just a feature of the Wayfarer system.
This is the only reasoning that even begins to explain their classification system.
It would be nice if they updated the error text to suggest logging all the way out and trying again, but who would even bother with this simple change when it’s not a bug?
