Any one notice that some just stay in same place? Maybe due te lack of other locations?
Yes, 1 power spot respawning for the third time in same ingress portal. But there is more locations where it can respawn. And 1 powerspot even dissappear and dont move elsewhere.
Range you can see them is also less then normal waypoint. Would be better if its the same
In better news when I walked up to this
I saw this. Thanks, Emilyđ€
Still a sh1tty implementation for Powerspots from the Go team though.
I have 1,215 accepted nominations and 227 rejected nominations. I have been doing Wayfarer since 2019 and reviewed nearly 100,000 nominations. I try my best to add quality POIs to the map, and sure, I made some bad nominations that deserved to be rejected due to bad photo, not enough information, and quite frankly, me just being humans & making bad decisions on some nominations. I spend hours each week on Wayfarer trying to better Nianticâs map database, and I enjoy it.
Many Wayfarers have high standards for getting a restaurant, memorial bench, local unique shop, etc. onto the game board, and the Wayfarer Team, themselves, made it clear that you need to provide good information to get wayspots accepted. However, it makes me frustrated when they go ahead and do a large import of garbage POIs to their gameboards. Then, they expect us to go ahead and clean up their mess & for our reports, they reject them a lot of the time. It is just extremely frustrated to me.
I feel like you are referring to the Power Spots in PoGo, and there is already quite a discussion going on this here:
Most of us Wayfarers arenât happyâŠ
I am referring to the imports in general, but yes, the recent one for Power Spots was the final nail in that coffin for me.
I look back and my nominations and recognize that I put more effort (and personal money) into my nominations than Iâll ever get back directly from Niantic (while they actively sabotage the community work) and smile at some of my best memories over the last few years.
Honestly, most of what I know about the city I live in was through Wayfarer. I discovered parks, a rich history of some of the land used for them, history about the economic development and expansion, first (âAmericanâ) settlers, and indigenous peoples history. And not just here - history that taught me more about the US and other countries. Iâve gained a network of friends across the world. It might not sound like much, but we share interests in socializing, exercise establishments, and exploring.
The real PokéStops/Portals/Wayspots were the friends & memories I made along the way.
I would say the imports like Brazil, India, Turkey etc are even more insidious than Powerspots which are just crass.
I imagine most PokĂ©mon GO players that donât know anything about Wayfarer (the majority) donât care though.
Donât worry, all those imports have been removed! From Ingress at least. PokĂ©mon GO next?
Just leave them on the Lightship map to make it really confusing for everyone.
I agree halfway - as a POGO Community Ambassador, I dove into Wayfarer headfirst around two years back, and I have definitely spent weeks worth of hours out on my bike, playing almost like a scavenger hunt style game of finding things that are valid nominations around my city to boost the game board for local players. I have put a lot of time and effort into learning all the rules so that I could be sure I would have the best chances of getting things into the games.
Despite that, there were still a number of rejections of things that are perfectly valid by criteria (around 20% of my nominations) and I hope that this update serves as a wake-up call to the wayfarers who have been too picky, or rejected things just because they didnât like them - for example, some local wayfarers who rejected all the mile markers along the dedicated bike trail through the city as âobstructs emergency servicesâ just because they have a note on them about being used in case of emergency.
Part of me is wondering if Niantic is pushing off the responsibility of map curation onto us, to report all these new home businesses? I would have thought that they would have scrubbed that data through a geolocational API for GIS data and zoning charts, it almost feels like theyâre playing with fire in a realm of lawsuits they have already lost.
Iâm curious as to whether anyone has seen any Power Spots removed that they reported yet?
I havenât bothered to request to remove any as they disappear after 48 hours. If they become permanent, I might look at submitting them for removal.
How do you tell the difference between cycling and removal? How long do you wait before concluding that the spot is truly gone?
Where does Overture get their data from?
At which point do the Lightship data points start appearing on the Overture map?
Reported a couple for âHome Businessesâ around my neighborhood, hoping that they would be removed from the cycles and end up on main roads nearby - but I donât know how I would identify if they were removed other than to just wait and see if they return.
Do you have an answer here for how I would check?
I donât unfortunately. Iâm waiting on a reply back from Karter at Niantic (just via the normal form) to say how we track removals and how we know if they are successful or rejected.
I suspect they didnât expect many removal requests so are likely woefully unprepared for it.
I believe itâs a mix of Google Maps, Foursquare and others.
Actually they list their âcontributorsâ on their homepage.
So any of those I suppose
